Looking for a 02+ 996 --What's a good deal?
I am in the market for an 02+
I have seen several around $40,000 with less than 40k miles, is this a good deal? What are these things going for in auction these days? Any leads or info would be great!!! |
If you find a clean 02 around $40k+ w/ closer to 30k miles, that's not a bad deal.
Price is going to vary a few grand either way, depending on options, if it's a cabriolet, etc.. If you are looking for a turbo, C4 or S model, expect to pay several thousand more with the turbo commanding at least $10k more. Take your time and the right deal will come along. IMO look for a car that has a lot of the options you want already installed (carbon fiber interior pieces, rear wing, wheels, suspension, etc) - Because these parts are expensive!! (Rule of thumb- when you think of adding upgrades to your pcar, think in thousands, not hundreds..LOL) Good luck to you on your buy, perhaps we'll see more of you here at the 6 real soon :). We expect LOTS of photos when you buy your pcar! |
Not sure about the auction info...I have first hand information on a 03 C2 completely stock with 15,000 mi. that I purchased 6 months ago for $48,500.
Hope that helps! |

Huh? C4 engines are more reliable than C2? Really?
I've heard that 3.6 engines are more reliable than 3.4, but I would have thought that C2 and C4 engines for the same model year would be identical. |

I thought TT and GT3 engines are more reliable, not C2/4.

Anyway the C2 and C4 are identical engines, there is no reliability issues between the 2. As for the 2002+, they are more reliable than pre 2002, but that is expected as the model evolved. As for getting a 2002 there should be some good deals. 03 and 04 may cost more since they may still be under warranty or if the owner got an extended warranty before the factory expires(so they can get better coverage). Also I have noticed a big range in prices depending on OEM options, condition and such. I have seen for example 03's C2 going for 45k(78k sticker car) and some going for close to 60k (90k sticker car with 6 more years of bumper to bumper exclusion only extended warranty). Both cars with similar mileage and both sold.... |

I am seeing the range in prices as well and am leaning now to paying a little more for a more heavily optioned car of newer model year. My budget keeps creeping up, time to get creative :) |
Been looking for 3 months for nice 911 or M5 in Hawaii-
Found a nice artic silver 02 996 C2 (6/02 build) with 16.5k miles a month ago from business assoc who was original owner- no options except CF steering wheel, technic package- all svc done at dealer. $41.5. Bought 6 yr 75K ext warranty (exclusionary) from dealer for peace of mind. Got windows tinted and looking for 18" rims- thinking of X74 package but no other options. GL on your search. |

X74 might be a bit stiff / low for our bumpy and pot-holed local roads, and you would be stuck with the X74 height / damping. Have you considered going PSS9, which is adjustable? Aloha~ |
I purchased my 02 C4 Convertible for $48,500 from a private party with 22500 miles and extended warranty. Optioned out MSRP was like $92500. The price varies on the condition of the vehicle, miles, and options. Definitely get the extended warranty if it doesn't already have it. My first oil change included replacing a leaking RMS which would of cost $1700 but ended up being $100.
Even though the car had an RMS replacement, I believe it to be a safe, reliable sports car. I heard the turbo/gt3 engines had less RMS issues, but still had the issue none the less. Even the newer 997 has had RMS issues. Don't know what the problem is but been told that the more you drive the car, it would decrease the chances of having RMS issues. |
Drive it like you stole it.....i used to baby all my cars, turbo mr2, turbo supra, audi s4...nothing like having your hard earned money depreciate sitting in your garage. ENJOY the car!! GL in your search, i found my 02 turbo and am loving every minute of it!
