Question regading importing 996 into Canada

Is there anything impotant to watchout for when importing a car from fFlorida into Ontario, Canada?

I know about the 6.1% duty, 6% GST and 8% PST, the $500 RIN fee, $250 Canadian tire inspection, cost of having a relay put in for day time running lights and the $1600 to ship it here, which includes taking care of all paper work at the border.

Have I missed anything? Any other extra charges associated with importing from Florida? Will there be any concerns with passing our emissions test here or anything that may not pass our safety check (providing everything is working properly) I recall reading something about a child seat restraint or something?

I will obviously have the dealer do a PPI and check the computer for any error codes and milage verification and a compression test.

Also if the car has an extended warranty to 100Miles, will the Ontario dealers honour this if it is a US car?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

This is not that hard to do ,I recently did this in B.C. and the border is not that big a deal, took maybe 45 min.I would check other shops in your area that can do the inspection besides Can Tire, wouldn't let them near my car, the speedo can be done yourself on the car's computer (at least on 996) and the running lights can be done your self as well, although I had mine done at a local independant shop for $80. This is easier to do than it appears ,good luck.

My US 1999 996 currently have the fogs setup as daylight saving lights. I've seen a running light kit at eBay for about $10.

The speedo can easily be converted to KM by turning "left" on the button that looks like a clock situated on the top of speedo for about 5 sec.

The climate control can be switched to Celsius. I’ll have to look for the instruction hidden amongst my numerous MS explorer favorites.

To switch from F to C:
- Hold down the recirculating button then push both the temperature + - buttons.
