Evoms EVT-690R in a real world test - Alastaro Drag Strip Finland --- RESULTS
Evoms EVT-690R in a real world test - Alastaro Drag Strip Finland --- RESULTS
Having had the luxury of placing an order for a brand new 911 Turbo at the age of 36, I continued on the same path and resigned from the 99 % majority of the earth's population and decided that even 911 Turbo needs some more boost under it's hood.
Selection of the tuning shop was ultimately surprisingly easy. No matter what RC might testify on behalf of german tuners regarding endurance and trustworthiness* at constant high speeds, I eventually inclined towards long term P-tuner at Arizona.
*This matter involved: having visited The Ring, German autobahn, local tracks and 13 tkm (8 tmiles) in general - I've had no problems with the car so far.
Evolution Motorsport may not be the king of the customer service, but they sure know how to refine already top-notch automobile! Afterwards I guess mojority of the challenges were due to the noveltiness of the product in hand. I'm still waiting for H&R to complete their delivery for my custom made 997TT suspension... So Mike, Todd & others at the Evoms - no hard feelings here!
And finally to the topic: After driving (read: racing) from Travemunde (harbour) to the Adenau (The Ring) ((both in Germany == time to time no speedlimits whatsoever!)) with Kaizu and fellow 996 Techart Stage 2 Porsche, I started to have my doubts about EVT-610 kits true power figures. We practically went head to head thru the whole speedscale that these vehicles are capable of.
Evoms promises that EVT-690R -kit delivers it's maximum power with 100+ octane gas. Todd & others haven't actually specified this grading more. I've spent some time learning different octane ratings (thanks eclou!) and to finish my suspicion off I went ahead and got my tank full of Aspen Race fuel and rented the Alastaro Drag Strip for couple of hours.
Tech specs for this rocket-gasoline:
Octane rating RON 102/MON 90.
Todd@Evoms promised that EVT-690R would perform as follows:

Since all measurements starting from 0 are highly dependable of single drivers skills, I mainly focused for 60 - 130 mph and classic 100 - 200 km/h.
And here's the beef:

As all the slide rule owners can quickly calculate - 7,79 seconds is actually less than promised 7,9 seconds!!!
I couldn't be happier with the outcome of the tests. I'm just the ordinary guy, not the factory-hired test driver and I managed to go under Evoms-promised 60-130 mph time. I'm quite convinced that Todd & partners had published the very best time of their comparable test for sales purposes.
100 - 200 km/h passed in 6,8 seconds, and afterwards I quickly learned (with some hinting from Kaizu) that this interval naturally should've been pulled with just 3 rd & 4 th gear and NOT with 2 nd, 3 rd & 4 th... :-) Well - live and learn!
All the measurements were carried out with Racelogic's Performance Box and wheather was as follows:
Temperature: 9,5 C / 49,1 F
Wind speed: 1 m/s / 2 knots (did I get the US-conversion right?)
Air pressure: 1002 hPa
Outside humidity: 93 %
Height asl: 125 metres / 131 yards
It's a pity that friend with Evoms GT700 -kit wasn't able to make it. It would've been nice comparison to my EVT-690R -kit.
I don't know if I want to mention this but, regardless of my joy described above - the trophy of the day @ Alastaro was taken by 700+ hp Holset equipped 996 with some massive 1000+ Nm on torque. This monster managed to squeeze 100 - 200 km/h in 6,3 seconds. And all this was done with street tyres!!!
Here's my ready, set...

ESu,
Very good right up. Congrats on beating EVOMS times. I guess the altitude, temperature and track preperation helped. Thanks for sharing.
This should make it clear for all the people who are dissing EVOMS tuning packages. Given the right weather and track prep, i guess people can bring out better times than what the tuner actually managed. Now, all people who do not have faith in Evolution Motorsport's Research and Development programs, can eat their hearts out. ......

Terve ESu!
Nice story, and I like the fact that you provide the "evidence" as well.
Love the color of your car.
If you ever come to Sweden/Stockholm, please contact me so we can meet up. It would be nice to see your car vs. our Ruf R Turbo 650 (Rt12 spec.) head to head.
We will also have our track day the 1:st of May @ Gelleråsen.

Good post (compliments from another 36 year old porsche owner)
I am planning on buying the new evoms kit with new turbos for my 997 turbo and I am glad to see you are happy with the 690 EVOMS kit and it independantly met the test. Any reliablity issues (i.e. check engine lights) that you have noticed?
As a matter of fact, we had a very thorough set of tuned 911 Turbos present:
964
100-200 km/h 7,6 s
993
100-200 km/h 6,6 s
996
100-200 km/h 6,3 s
997 EVT-610
100-200 km/h 7,2 s
997 EVT-690R
100-200 km/h 6,8 s
Needless to say - both 993 & 996 were tuned to the maxx... :-)

First of may is unfortunately already booked, but I'll PM you with my contact info and it would definately be nice to visit one of your track days and vice versa. As said - Evoms GT700 would've been nice comparison as well. To my understanding, there's plenty of these around.
The trackmeister @ Alastaro gave us few good days that one might consider next summer. All these dates are right after National and European level drag races and their track is in top-notch condition (regarding glue) after these days.
Hot days were:
Ma 7.7.2008 10-17
Ti 8.7.2008 10-17
Ke 9.7.2008 10-20
and
Ma-Ke 1.-3.9.2008 10-16
It would be nice to get some 600+ Turbos there and do the same thing we now did.
And yes, your Ruf would be a thing to see!! :-)
Timo was assisting and keeping thumbs up! :-) As said - I'm VERY satisfied with your product!
UNLESS one doesn't count racecar -like revving, bad-*** sounding and supercar performing things as issue! :-) Most dramatic changes were: lighter flywheel and opener exhaust/cats. Turbo lag is considerably smaller and torque comes much earlier. At Alastaro I managed to get 0,98 G readings for acceleration. For the record I had Cup -tyres on.
