2009 Nissan GT-R vs. 2008 Porsche 911 Turbo

Where do you get THAT impression? Evos and STIs were never designed to be in the same class as the 911 Carrera. Do you see 911s in world rally championship races?
Flite makes a valid point, its not about class, its about performance. Evo, STI is similar to 997 performance. I think the point he's trying to make is your avg. 997 owner probably could not care less about getting beat by a superheated Evo. Same thing with the 997TT owner and GTR.
There is always something faster.....no sense on losing sleep over it. But Porsches blend of performance, luxury, pricepoint and history will never be matched. Its for all those reasons I ordered a 997TT. That and my wife approves of it of course

Having owed many cars including Nissans, Honda's, P-cars, etc. I can appreciate fully what Nissan has done here, they built a car that actually makes power FROM THE FACTORY which Honda, Mazda and Toyota have failed to due (I'm talking stock form not modded). I think that the GTR is a decent looking car and that maybe in person this would look better. I'm going to reserve my full opinion until I get the chance to view one in person. I have many friends that ride around in Lambo's or Vipers and wouldn't even think about buying or even consider driving a P car. They have their opinions and taste and we don't bash them because it's Italian or American Muscle they drive around. I think we all need to respect the engineering feet that Nissan has done here (they finally got a car to the US that may be worth buying).
I think we all need to keep an open mind (even if it does look like a goofy looking bat mobile) because one day it might dust us on the freeway or pass us on the track and then it won't be as bad as we currently think. Plus just think of how many Daily Driver cars we have or want to have that we initially thought looked like a steamy pyle of dung and now we own one or have entertained the thought of buying one.
One day very soon one of us loyal 6 speeders are going to run into a GTR on the freeway (hopefully me) and on video we'll get at least some closure as too what this car can do in a straight line and then the same for the track. Unfortunaly every driver is different so any test in the real world is basically pointless because of driver ability.
I think we should just keep an open mind until one of us get one and really beat the hell out of it and see what it can do. And from the sound of it a gentlemen prior to my posting has one on order. Even though I don't know him I would take his opinion more then i would Jeremy Clarkson because he thinks every car he drives is great and he isn't driving on our roads or dealing with our traffic on his show. Hopefully someone on here will put up a full opinion posting on there experience owning one of these.
Just my .02 cents.

Think back a few years Porsche did run the Carrera in world rally. I think they were Rothman sponsored.

Please, read up on GTR before you post. It will match or beat 911 Turbo on every aspect of performance until Porsche updates the Turbo. And Nissan will update their GTR, and the cycle will repeat it self. In the end we will have two great cars to choose from. And having a choice is a good thing.
this is the kind of b.s. that aggravates me about the GT-R, tons of video game boys running around talking out of their behinds.
Go and do some research and tell me the Nissan claimed 1/4 mile, 0-60, 60-0 braking and skip pad for the GT-R.
Next go and find all of these ACTUALLY RUN by the TT. Even by MAGAZINES, which are far from the best.
Then make that statement again.
for the members on this board, i'd expect more matureness...
people should appreciate nissan for what they are doing. if they give the 911 turbo competition, more towards the consumers, no? you can't hate the fact that nissan offers more bang for the buck.
if most you were true auto enthusiasts, i'd say to get your head out of your asses and appreciate what nissan has made.
btw, i'm a porsche fanatic for the people who think i'm defending nissan.

As I said a few posts back, I'm a fan of the GTR. I can't afford a 911 turbo, but a GTR is within reach. Given the chance however, I'd drop the GTR like a hot potato for a 911 turbo.
I have just placed myself on the list for the F430 replacement.
Yes, I am in a 3-4 year line for a car that is SLOWER than my 997TT.
Why is that??
Because performance is only a fraction of why car fanatics buy cars.
I respect the GT-R. I hope I can test drive one soon. My hat goes off to Nissan for producing a car with 500 ponies that is attainable by a person making less than a 100K per year.
With the ZO6's, Evo's, blown Cobra's, and GT-R's....the masses are armed and dangerous. This is the era of "MASS PRODUCED HORSEPOWER".

997 Turbo (Factory Stats)
0-60mph 3.4sec (Tiptronic)
Top Speed 193mph
480HP
GTR (Factory Stats)
0-60mph 3.5sec
Top Speed 193mph
473HP
I think the performance between these two cars are very close. And yes I know some people got better times on their 997 Turbo, but that can be said for the new GTR. But if you go by the factory stated numbers, they are neck to neck.

I love threads like these
I'm so grateful for the Nissan fans to alert me to the fact that the GTR exists. Should I go sell my TT and buy one? And please don't give me the BS "well, we're all car enthusiasts". I'd have to jab a pen in my eyes if I have to read thru this thread again, but I don't think many (if any) porsche fans did not say that the perf. of the GTR is great. SO WHAT. Do you think I bought my car (or any car for that matter) because of the times that some pro driver can lap the ring in? Or how fast it does the 1/4 mile? That's ridiculous.
We live in the real world and drive our cars on ****ty, crowded streets. None of us will extract even a fraction of what these cars can do on the street. We buy the WHOLE PACKAGE, not 'ring lap times.
I can afford pretty much any car I want. I've always wanted a TT. People dream about owning cars like TT's, Ferrari's, Lambo's, Aston's, etc. hate to say it, but people don't dream about owning Nissans. If that sounds elitist, so be it. If I didn't have the money and was maybe 15 years or so younger the GTR would be an amazing car to own.
I'm not sure what insecurities someone must have to come onto a "competitive" board throwing lap times around. What are you trying to accomplish? Get us to sell or cars? Show us the error of our ways? There are MANY things that go into what car I buy. Compensating for "shortages"? Idiotic post of the year, BTW. thanks for the education but you're not converting me. Same thing when the Z06 came out. Never dreamed of owning a Vette so dind't buy one. So, if i'm sitting in traffic next to a GTR owner feel free to wave a magazine with faster lap times in it than my car.
I think most here would reconginze that the TT is not the better performer of many of it's competitors but like I said earlier, many have wanted this car for a long time. I'm no porsche flag waver in fact my first porsche was an '06 997S, which I traded for my TT. Like I said earlier, i'm already thinking of an F430. I'm fortunate to be able to purchase cars that have a history, a certain feel, that others just can't deliver. Hell, I'd buy an M5 before the GTR, as well as an R8. Probably a Vatage too.
Nissan is to be commended for their accomplishment. I'm sure it is an outstanding car and if that's what you want, you should be proud of owning it. Don't knock other cars, or the choices that other people make in the process, though.
Someone mentioned what an engineering feat the GTR is. Maybe it is. I know Nissan was able to start with a fresh piece of paper and start from scratch.
I think it's just as impressive what Porsche has been able to do with a car that is virtually unchanged in many ways for many years.
Great post! My TT is 6 months old and i'm already thinking about it's replacement - most likely an F430 or it's replacement.
