Quote: I think I caught that one too, I just forgot which car mag it was made by, I do recall that they were testing it against a GTR on the track though.

Dez,

Post the video - I have been trying to find it on you tube

Before I saw that I didn't think the Turbo's would drift that well.

Seems like a common theme: computers, gadgets, stiff, lack of feel, no fun. (feels and looks like a maxima)

Seems like another over-engineering job gone wrong. Bottom line is there is no replacement for the TT and the hype will die down in quick fashion as people start to see it.

"If you're not punching out sonic booms, endangering life and limb left and right, the Nissan feels like an appliance. Or a Maxima with a crappy ride."

"Disappointment in that one of the best Nurburgring tools ever built doesn't really feel or act that special. And disappointment in the fact that the latest and greatest Japanese supercar is still an emotional dead-end."

What I find the most amazing is that GTR fanboys actually claim that their car is as fast or faster than Carrera GT on track and can do 7:29 on the ring stock (same as CGT)! Is there no common sense at all with these people?

You're talking about a 3,800lb GT coupe being as fast as a 3,000lbs mid-engined supercar with a carbon-fiber monocoque chassis, carbon-ceramic brakes, 600hp+ V10 engine, magnesium wheels, etc. Basically a full-on streetable race car (which was initially developed to compete in Le-Mans)! I honestly can't believe these idiots

Reality is hitting them in the face now that Nissan's preprgrammed magazine results have expired and the people they havent gotten to have started to give impressions.

But ignorance has no bounds, they really think the car is as fast as a CCX or CGT, or Zonda, or GT2. None of them listen to the fact that no one has tested in the same measure as Nissan before.

But it will be all the more killarious when they show up at the track.

The arguement will be "awd puts the power down"

Folks were just too quick to write Porsche off. Here's what I'm wondering. The 997.5 series should remain as exciting as ever to drive because the electronics still won't intervene until a driver is about to otherwise kill him or herself, correct? DSG will hopefully not turn the 997 (or 987) series into a boring-to-drive-mobile also, I am hoping.

I'm glad you are one of the few P-fans informed enough to realize this. Most of the Porsche and GT-R fanbases are guilty of being uninformed to such facts. Its obvious that Nissan has pushed their Ring times MUCH MORE than any other manufacturer to date, even going back to improve their time after making several chassis revisements. It was a smart move for Nissan to push toward achieving a superior Ring time, as it is now an obvious marketing tool for getting into the U.S. market, while at the same time ruffling more than a few feathers, and creating controvery (hype) among automotive enthusiast. The new repaved circuit was also something that helped knock off a few seconds, as well as running on a completey dry surface this time. Nissan has also logged thousands of hours at the Ring fine tuning the optimum performance/streetability balance of the car, also making sure their official run was done without any traffic to overtake. Something I can't say for other manufacturers. Does this mean Nissan is guilty of cheating? No. It just means their testing procedures are superior to others. If you really want to try and knock Nissan for that, that should automatically show how biased and insecure you are.

So basically you are saying that they had an adjustable coilover suspension on the car that they represent as "stock" GTR. Stock GTR's suspension is non-adjustable and has 3 modes (comfort, sport and R). You cannot "tweak" it for the Nurburgring. You say yourself that the car was specifically tuned for optimal performance on the Nurburgrind, but that does not make it a "stock GTR". Besides the suspension, it is clear that that particular GTR had other mods and most likely well over 600hp. Stock GTR is the one you buy at a dealership, not the one that you spend thousands of hours testing and "tweaking" for optimal performance for a particular circuit

huh? so having 3 modes is non adjustable?
im not saying GTR will do 7:29sec in the ring, but... the chassis revisment is for the newer batch of GTRs that will be sold in US and Europe. just to clear that off.

I think people who worry too much about a Nissan being faster than their Porsche just have small wee-wee's.

Here is another review I came across. Slightly off topic from the original post, but I didn't know were else to post it. Almost exactly like the review HC posted above.

Great article! Haha. I'm not so sure if I totally agree with their bottom line statements though.
