door defender?

I was at the local movie theater yesterday and saw this thing on a new BMW 1 series. Interesting concept, just don't know how well it works. The other thing is it does attract some attention as you see these two black bars on the car

Anyone used this before?

I'm NEVER parking in a spot where I would need those!

neat idea, but like above....I also dont park anywhere near others to chance it.

In places like that when you got back to your car your defenders would be gone.

they are too tempting to steal by the looks of them.

High density magnets...

Aluminum doors...;)

cabman4007 07-13-2008 08:53 AM

All the more reason not to get them, someone grabs that thing and pulls it so hard that it does damage to to door.. Or they get frustrated and use a knife to pry it off.

I ve seen it all happen. There are some jerks that just dont like to see nice cars because of gene defects and that defender just may trigger something in the brain.

Now in my garage they would be great,, my wife parks very close to me at times and I am always afraid of her denting the porsche, of course out of forgetfullness.

What I was trying to say was that the magnets won't stick to the doors...they won't work.

Wonder how they are affixed to the door? certainly not velcro..

maybe they wont work on our doors.

It'll work on the 996s, and other cars...but the 997s all have aluminum doors to save weight.

I used them on a C4S - magnets work great - as Bobby said they don't work on TT doors - something about magnets and aluminum.

My car is black...and I have admit I've gotten so many compliments on my avitar...I stole it from gt3000.com...

cabman4007 07-13-2008 09:14 AM

My last cab was black.

2 reds one black.

wife likes the black too but red won this time.

too hard to keep the black pristine and in the sun it had a lot of imperfections, spiderwebs,, cant see them on the red as much.

At least the lingerie in the pic is black!!

I agree...black isn't really a color...it's more a labor of love...:D

Regarding the door guards, they do make suction cup versions of he same thing...http://www.autoanything.com/garage-a...A1346A0A0.aspx

However, Cab is right...it makes your car a target, and the cup's will probably scratch the clearcoat.
