Snow tires

Anyone purchase them? my porsche parts dep quoted me 1800 for four tires...that seems stupidly high. Especially since I have a SUV.

I have a set of Pirelli Winter 240 Sottozero 295/30-19 & 235/30-19 going on this weekend. They probably are about the best readily available winter tires and are about $1200 plus shipping and tax. $1800 from the dealer, if it includes tax, mount & balance, and installation for the above tires is not outrageous. If it tires alone, $1800 is pretty high.

Keep in mind, the above are not really snow tires but rather high performance winter tires. I had my TT out a few days ago when it was about 30°F and the summer tires were rock hard and losing traction with any sort of mildly spirited driving. You really need winter tires if you are driving in the cold, let alone light snow.

$1800CAD is not bad. Even when you check with tirerack, it come out $1700USD with tax, duty and shipping to Vancouver. If you still driving your TT right now, snow tire are MUST! Is crazy out there!

i agree with sparkhill-i paid about $1300 shipping included from tire rack in october. i then took them to my porsche dealer and paid $189 to have them installed/balanced. i definitely agree-if you are going to drive in the winter in winter conditions, winter tires are a necessity.

Thumbs up A lot of fun.

But useless when the snow is too deep, obviously.

Looks like you have lots of fun with it! Which part of BC are you at? I don't think my front lip will make it to the end of the street!

Angus and Granville area. It was a brave move a couple of weeks ago, doing my communal duty clearing the road, luckily the spoiler didn't break.

Good fun!

PS I have the Continental TS810S ordered from TireRack a couple of years ago. A thousand something, can't remember exactly.

I put the Sottozeros on two weeks ago and they are great. Very soft in colder climates and we had some snow fall last weekend and it drove like a range rover. I dont recall what I paid but I ordered them from Damon @ tirerack and they are perfect. Fantastic for cold climates.

Thumbs up Me too

I too have the Sotozeros on my TT - just can't imagine parking it all winter. From my experience they are excellent winter tires as they give good traction in all of the winter driving conditions which this year has included down to -30C with snow and ice on the road. When we get dry roads you still can have some fun, without too much tire spin, given their winter "performance" design. I take to early morning parking lots to get a feel for them and you do have to use some common sense in traffic. I easily drive by (especially from an uphill stop sig/light) other cars that are struggling. They also have good grip when stopping. If only the other cars driving up behind me would slow down at stop signs/lights so I don't have to move forward as they start slidding ! About $1800 including install, allignment and balancing sounds about right in Canada. I keep the PSI a bit lower than recommended. When we get deep snow, I just wait until others have packed it down a bit.
Drive safe and happy holidays!
K.

We're just 5 min away! I'm at 33rd and Arbutus area. I have some snow tires on OEM wheels but with almost 10" snow at my street. I don't even put them on.

Indeed, we probably fill up at the same Chevron.

With the crazy snow, I'm taking the mini-van out (with Nokians) instead. Debating whether to pick up an SUV, thinking of the Subaru Tribeca, X5 Diesel, MLBlueTec, ML GLK, etc.

Miss my allroad but got rid of it since it wasn't exactly needed in the past few years.

Nokian does a 235/35-19 and 295/30-19, we did a set on a turbo where I work and it came out to around 1400 IIRC

I believe I've saw your TT running around before. Now I have my R500 running 22" with Yokohama Parada spec-x and so far tread me pretty good. Hope we don't have have to go thought this kind of weather every year!
