New 997 turbo...doesn't feel as fast as my m6
Just purchased a 07 997 turbo cpo'd...i traded in a bmw m6. I know they are completely different engines...but the turbo doesn't seem near as fast...i was expecting it to feel quicker. Is there something i'm missing. It feels like the boost just falls off too early. I'm still learning the new engine, but is there some trick or settings that need to be adjusted. Please help

There is 27 hp difference, but doesen't matter , the 997 turbo should be more fast than M6.

any mods on the tt?
|
Welcome aboard, there should be a significant difference btwn the two, the m6 isn't even on the same planet as the turbo. How was it when you test drove it prior to purchase?

This is certainly not the definitive website but just to give you an idea of the comparison: click here

If you put full gas down at the right torque range in the 997tt you should feel much faster.I had drove both when they stock. The M6's 500hp V10 engine's play ground would definetly above 5000RPM til the redline.but for the 997tt you get all the torque after around 2500-3000rpm.
Eg. if you in 2nd gear,in both car you accle. from 2000rpm til red line, you will feel the power comes slower in the M6 but when it comes up it stays longer. In the 997tt you will feel a damn rush move between 3000-5000rpm then you see the redline soon and time to change gear!By that time,997tt may already 2 cars in front of the M6.997tt is a faster car!680nm of torque with sport model on.M6 only has 500nm in P500 sport model. If you accle. both car from 5000rpm in same gear you might "feel" the M6 little faster because that's M6's top torque range and it stays to 8000rpm.In a stock 997tt the top have gone and you have to change gear before 6500rpm.Thats the different between turbo and N/A engines. You wouldnt compare them in same rpm range... |
What's the weight of the M6? The turbo should be lighter but the M6 has a 7 speed gear box.
|
A stock M6 weight about 3770lbs.about 300lbs more than a manual 997tt.
and front engine rear wheel drive car compare to rear engine AWD will be under inferior position anyway. You have to mod a M6 to at least 580hp to follow a stock 997tt. |
There is something wrong with your Turbo.

Here's an airstrip video of the two .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QmIkQnTzwec The stock Turbo has some lag plus it's quiet . That combination allows the M6 to feel faster but it isn't once that boost kicks in as can be seen in the video . The M6 is also somewhat limited in modification gains compared to the Turbo. Both are great cars but you have the right one of the two. Don't second guess this .. instead welcome to the forum . |
Hehe...That silver one vs stock M6 is a nice one!Although M5/M6 board got lots unreal videos but this one is quite true:

I've driven an M6 hard, without a doubt it is a very fast car, but not as fast as the TT. Maybe the Turbo lag is throwing you off, but as soon as boost kicks in all hell breaks loose. Maybe you should check your boost gauge, are you making .9-1.2 bar of boost under full throttle in 2nd gear and higher??

I'm under the impression that the M6 and M5 have similar performance profiles. I've owned an M5 and it was very rapid - but certainly did not feel as fast as the Turbo (although I don't see it disappearing rapidly in the rear view either). However, the BM doesn't feel like the planet's slowing down when you boot it. If you're car feels slower, I'd be wondering if it's delivering all the goods.

I've easily walked an M6.

Not only should the TT have numbers faster than the M5/M6, but your butt dyno should agree. If not, something is wrong.
Maybe this? |
