New Paint Job on my Black 997?
Funny thing is this.
This 997 TT is my dream car. And Black is Beautiful!
But when I was a kid, I failed to consider that I would have to work my *** off to make the monthly payments
So, I don't have time to care for the car. Just enough time to sleep and drive to work. I am a surgeon and in my business, image means quite a bit. I dress professionally every day (no scrubs). Overall personal presentation is important to me, my patients and my referring doctors. A dirty appearing car with trash and dirty laundry visible from the outside is not tolerable for me. A dirty black car does not portray the image I want to portray. This is one of the main reasons I was considering my options.
This post was to consider my options. I had no idea that painting the car was a really bad idea. After getting very valuable and appreciated input from the members on this forum, I have decided to find a detailer in my area that will come by every 2 weeks to detail the car (maybe weekly). Simple as that.
I know my posts are not as erudite as others in the forum, but what the hell. I needed the info anyway. And that's the great thing about this forum, often stupid questions are answered anyway.

I have never seen such focus on the negatives of a car's color . In fact I often wonder if it's a regional indoctrination too as i have noticed a high concentration of car owners in 91 octane zones take issue with a black car.
There is a huge positive aspect of a black car which I feel ought not be overlooked . It is gorgeous . So what if its work ? Anything worth attaining takes some effort and to have the sexiest bad *** 997tt one has to invest a little extra time .
The dust is still present on a silver car . If the black only reveals it sooner then why not be vigilant about car care?
Once upon a time the OP loved that car enough to spend a lot of money to buy it. Of course its his choice whether to repaint it, trade it in , wrap it , but it seems to me that all of those choices are more work than just taking care of the car .
Maybe I am missing something . I still remember dreaming of owning a Porsche when I was a child and the last thing I ever would have complained about was washing my dream car . I never forgot .

Since this is a daily driver and the AM is not....why not simply drive the car through a nice touchless car wash every couple of days between details? The higher miles will hit you on the resale....but with your trade history....maintaing resale value doesn't seem as important...and cash is available for making up the difference.
As another owner of a black 997TT, here's my suggestion. Because the clear coat over black shows every defect, try a water deionizer and a pressure washer. This investment will keep your car appearing nice all the time.
Once a week, spray it down...5 minutes max. Deionized water dries absolutely spotless. Wash off all the dust, etc. Hand dusting will mar and cause swirls and scratches. Pressure wash the car with deionized water, then walk away.
Alternatively, you could try a car wrap...matte black or gunmetal would probably stay cleaner.

I had my black ML63 epoxy coated. Honestly, it helps quite a bit. Water doesn't stick as much and when it is dusty, it is easily washed off. It's called cilajet and was applied at the dealership. You can try it but it sounds like you need a new car. I am looking... if you decide to trade it in.
Silver looks good for a long time..trade/sell for another color is what I'd do....and man, 55miles each way? thats got to be rough! i'm sorry to hear that...but at least your doing it in a fun car!

I think most here understand that your work has its time demands and with that in mind a dirty car means that work is the priority . When do you enjoy the car ? If you don't even have time to wash it ? Just curious.
Black is beautiful, but as others said - takes more work. But we take pleasure in that work of carefully detailing it. Do not repaint, just take care of it - or have someone else detail it.. I love the shiny look of the fenders from the ****pit on black p-cars - simply wonderful. I had a black 997S and searched specifically for my current black 997TT.
can't believe i bought a black car either, i've enjoyed white cars for a long time that i rarely had to clean. now i am hoping/thinking that this metallic black doesn't show dust and dirt as easily.
i did wipe off some white spots yesterday with a wet rag... never heard that duster wands scratch pain... and i just ordered one from amazon... can someone confirm this for me?
i didn't know painting a porsche a different color would alter it's value so much... but i kinda knew it would be a big deal and not to do it so the value drop makes sense...
why don't we just trade cars among each other here on 6speed... seems we'd all save a lot of money, and get to experience the great variety that 911's have to offer.

There's a reason I'm on my 4th silver car in a row. I have OCD, and people with OCD don't buy black cars.

+1 on the wrap, its like getting a temporary new car. Recently saw a matte black with carbon mirrors, looked great! Also another greek member here has a matte grey wrap, looks like primer, also very interesting choice. And no dirt issues, and your black paint is protected for resale value.
A weekly wash will give you a clean car for a couple of days and in winter season, barely for 1 day... It is not what you are looking for. Driving through a touchless wash every 3 days will be closer to what you are looking for...
Markus you need to read up a lot on protecting a black car's paint. Consider that the dust and the rag combined make a fine grit sandpaper... you always need to use a lubricating factor when cleaning. Either soap when washing or a detailing spray in between washes. The detailing spray needs care however, and the rag should be kept clean and flipped around if there is a lot of dust. In any case, never just water and a rug, and never never a duster...
That is... if you are as sick as I am...! To each his own...
