I love dogs... and I love cars... the 2 together, not so much... the drooling, the scratching, the pencil eraser dripping, the hairs and after all that, the smell. you won't be able to tell because is your dog and lives with you, but every dog smells and the car is a sponge absorbing all that aroma. No thanks.
I appreciate what you are doing for your dog. that's golden. but maybe a smaller breed could've it been more sensible for apartment living in new york.

great danes are actually really good apartment dogs, they have next to zero energy 99% of the day, all they want to do is lounge around and be with people. I have a decent sized apartment but I could live in a walk in closet as long as there was a couch and a person in there the dog would be happy.

for reference, in the picture and the video the dog is sitting as far back as he can, and he is taking up almost all the available space, so for all you "just recline the seat" guys... not even close.

thanks for the advice guys, having him in the office was great and it was nice to have him just rest when he got him and I was able to unwind nicely.
I still think you have major issues

Good luck!

Man that is awesome! I allways wanted a Dane, have had two Airedale Terriers, they loved riding in the front seat of the Ram. Maybe a torso harness that you could clip to the seat mounts or maybe the seatbelt mounts, not sure what you have left to mount it to, but something along those lines...

Props for doing it, I bet you get some looks!

I don't know if anyone's told you yet, but I don't think you'll pass safety inspections now. Why don't you use the car to get a girl, and take her to work?

so will this show on carfax?

Ya think? But this thread is not about the dog, it's about what the owner of the dog and turbo wants to make him feel good. The OP had no initial stated interest in doing this safely.

I had no intention of responding until you said that. Don't you think it's a bit reckless given that statement and how much he said he likes having the dog with him?
I didn't read through all pages of the original thread nor comment there as I saw this post first. I'm not going to argue about it though. It's his dog and he can do what he likes........

I think this response is reflective of thought process in your initial post. How would you know that "nobody" has an issue? Asking if you're aware of laws requiring the restraint of dogs in cars would be time wasted. But thinking about it may cause you to change your mind, if that's possible.
And determining what is acceptable/safe for you simply observing the actions of others is a dangerous proposition. And even if you embrace such a proposition you would at least have to compare/contrast (critical thinking skills) the difference between an animal in the BACK of 6K lb vehicle that is 6ft tall vs the animal in the FRONT (with airbags made for humans) of a 3500 lb car that is only 4ft tall. And then there are visibility issues in the passenger window, the dog possibly interferring with your ability to control the vehicle if it moves toward you for any reason, etc.

But all this requires thought and consideration, so maybe you should just hang on the "nobody every has an issue..." line of logic and we'll just wait for evolution to do it's work.

So, thats like saying "they are your kids and you can do what you like with them"...even if that means putting them in harms way or physically abusing them? is that ok too?
It is his dog, but when he asked people on a public forum if doing something is ok and is asking for a response, excuse me, but people have a right to state what is safe to the dog or not. Hopefully you understand that point.

Nice Dog. Looks like he/she is having a great time.

You'd think from some of the comments that putting dogs in cars and/or trucks is a new thing. I'm surprised I haven't seen someone suggest that you put a helmet on the dog!

No, he can't do what he likes even though it's his dog. Maybe you could review some of the laws surrounding dogs in motor vehicles and report back to us and then tell us with your newfound knowledge if he can do what he lilkes.

I don't have to do anything. It's not my dog in the front of my car.....

Well, you're right. You don't have to learn anything. It was just suggestion.
