Dogs and cars just go together, they have such a great time. I have a King Charles Spaniel and he loves to go for rides in my truck. He has never seen the inside of my Porsche though.

Yes, the dog is the property of the OP, but as he posted the thread he invited comment. IMO, a dog that size does should not ride unrestrained in the front seat area of that vehicle.
<o></o>
Like the OP, I am an owner who very much enjoys the constant companionship of my dog. I also enjoy fast cars. The compromise my girlfriend and I made was to purchase an extra vehicle for hauling the dog. In our case a WRX wagon made the most sense. I kind of went crazy with the mods, so it is not quite the ideal daily driver. However, it became our primary mode of transportation, as the dog basically goes everywhere we do.
<o></o>
There are plenty of nice used cars on the market that are suitable for transporting a dog and an extra parking space in the city can be found for somewhat affordable rates. In my mind, the costs for safe transportation should be built into the cost of ownership equation.
<o></o>
If the owner ignores common sense and makes the decision to put his dog at risk, at a minimum he should disable the passenger side airbags.

Seat belts, air bags, and apartments are the last thing I think about when I think of animals being treated poorly. Two wrongs don't make a right, but there are bigger fish to fry. Look what I saw driving 45 mph.
