DME Scan -- Need advice
Hello Guys,
I know this topic has been talked many times over the time. I also did search; I just couldn't find the information that I am looking for. So here it goes again, sorry guys! So I found a 07 turbo with 5000 miles and optioned almost the way I wanted except PCCB. The color is what I wanted too. I got a DME Scan today and here is how it looks: Range 1 --- 2820 Ignitions -- 184.1 Hours Range 2 --- 238 Ignitions -- 184.0 Hours Range 3 --- 23 Ignitions -- 184.0 Hours Range 4 --- 3 Ignitions -- 184. 0 Hours Range 5 --- 0 Range 6 --- 0 Should I really worry about range 3 and 4 over revs? How fast will range 3 and 4 spin the motor to? and 2820 over revs in range 1, too much? Should go look for something else? I don't really need to have a turbo now because it will be parked till spring anyways. But it will make me happier by just looking at the sexy rear end in my garage hilarious Thanks alot guys, and sorry for the long post. |

(Waiting for RiceEater to join in with his opinion here, lol.) Most would probably say that the drive needs some practice, and level 1s and 2s are probably fine, 3s and 4s came from an errant downshift. On the other hand, there are many cars out there that are available. No guarantee that the car's good or bad either way. |
Thanks for the quick reply bbywu !
I just talked to the sales guys again on the phone, he said range 4 over revs will void the warranty, but not 100% sure. He's going to ask the service tech to make sure. |
ranges 1-4 are ok from what my dealer told me and the 07 I sold did have range 4's and my dealer gave the buyer the OK to purchase. i've also ran into a car with range 5's and the dealer told me to stay away unless it was a killer deal.
i think you should move forward with the purchase if the car is what you want and the price is fair. gl |
First post timed out....
I dont know about voiding the warranty, I wouldnt think it would, FWIW a range 4 on a 997T is 7400-7900

Porsche does not have a set policy on what rev limits will trigger a warranty problem. However, I would doubt that 0.009 seconds at any range is an issue. :)

Thanks for the help guys! I just off the phone with the Porsche dealership in Bellingham, WA (they are going to be my service dealer after i purchase a turbo).
Basicly there's nothing on paper from porsche that what range of over rev will void the warranty, and I won't have problems with range 1 or 2 whatsoever. however, if i do run into problem with engine or transmission, Porsche will want the information from DME and they will evaluate range 3 and up over revs. They also said 23 ignitions in range 3 and 3 ignitions in range 4 are probably not enough for Porsche to void my warranty, but it's entirely up to Porsche. Range 4 over rev is between 7400rpm and 7800 rpm. Thanks again guys! |
We want pics when you get your car!
|
Looks to be normal, if you love it, buy it!
|
Thanks guys!
I still can't get over there are over revs in range 3 and 4. And they can't get me the service history for the car due to some privacy reasons?? What do you guys think? |
How many hours are on the car? When did these revs happen? During break in?
|
It didn't show the total hours, but i think the total hours should be 181.1 hours. All the over revs happened at 181 - 181.1 hours
|
Total hours is important. Did the over revs occur during break-in or not? If you are saying the odometer is at 5000 miles, his average mph at 184 hours is about 26mph. This should tell you that the previous owner probably babied the vehicle, which is relatively low. That should give you a little hint about the use of the vehicle.

Thanks! No i don't think the over revs happened during break in. They all happened at hour 184. Range 1 --- 2820 Ignitions -- 184.1 Hours Range 2 --- 238 Ignitions -- 184.0 Hours Range 3 --- 23 Ignitions -- 184.0 Hours Range 4 --- 3 Ignitions -- 184. 0 Hours Can't all the dealers access the service history in their computer even though the car was not serviced there? |
