How many DIY's on 6Speed?
Yesterday I changed my oil with Mobil1. I couldnt stand that my Dealer put in Valvoline in my Porsche. After I changed it I quickly noticed that it idle'd quieter and less vibration/noise. It's probably just me:confused:
How many on the board do your on maintance? ex. Oil, Filters, etc... Or do you have your dealer do everything??? Cost me $100 for the oil & oil filter. Compared to $900 that I paid this summer at Reeves. |
plan on doing my oil change this weekend. any noteworthy tips. thx.

I did aircraft maintenance and modification for 14 year before a career change.
Sold my tools and don't miss a minute of it. I can uncerstand why people like to do it, however just not for me anymore. Will happily spend a weekend though on detailing thought and have all the tools. :) |
It's painful but the dealer is where I take my car. They stamp the maintenance book and I feel better when it gets done there, even though we get screwed on the pricing.

Directions(Im not responsible if you screw it up) Change At Your Own Risk
Step 1: 9 qts of Mobil1 0W-40 Step 2: Warm up the motor. 10 min cruise is fine Step 3: 15mm(crankcase) & 19mm(Oil Sump) Socket wrench Step 4: Drain the Crank Case 1st, then the Oil Sump. Step 5: Remove Oil Filter replace with new OEM Filter. Step 6: Ad 8qts 1st. Then start your Porsche. Then add until you reach the Full Mark. *I let the car run while I add my last qt. of oil. You wont get sprayed with oil like other cars. Dont add more than 8.5qts. It can hold 9 but thats pushing it. Be careful draining the Oil Sump. Its on the right side of the car/in front of the turbo. Make sure you practice before removing the last thread. It drains VERY FAST!!! Crankcase drains about: 3 qts Oil Sump drains the most: 5.5 qts(will drain in less than 15sec.)might be messy the 1st time you do it.http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...ilies/cool.gif |
I believe in the dealership or another professsional
|
I do brake pads and fluid, just changed the engine mounts. Nothing real heavy.

Porsche is by far the easiest to change oil. 2drain bolts & 1 filter.
I really don't understand how it could be hard? I was done in 35mins. Walmart had a steal. $5.50 a qt. Everywhere it's $7qt |
$900..........WTF, thats crazy. I think I paid $250-$300 at the stealer.

Yea that's why I'm not going back |
it is just more convenient to do oil at home vs driving to and from dealer and waiting around or getting a loaner. If it is in for other work, I will have them change it.

Here is a link to a thread I started on another forum with a few pics as well.
