PIRELLI FITTED PORSCHE DOMINATES WILLOW SPRINGS WITH RECORD-BREAKING WIN
Rosamond, CA – In only its second weekend racing Pirelli P Zero Racing Slicks, GMG Racing posted another big win – this time capturing qualifying by nearly three seconds over the next-fastest car, and then going on to obliterate the competition – winning the Porsche Owner’s Club Racing Weekend race at Willow Springs Raceway with a ten-second margin. GMG’s Porsche 997 WC Cup car set the fastest time ever in a Cup car (non-RS or RSR) with a time of 1:19.6. Driver and GMG co-owner James Sofronas is new to the Pirelli Motorsport family, but after sweeping the BMW CCA (Car Club of America) Club Race CM Class during last week’s BMWCCA West Coast season finale club race, and following that up with a huge weekend at Willow Springs in his Porsche – he is a believer. "This was the first time we ran the Pirelli slicks on our WC car," explained Sofronas. "Once again we were the fastest car leading practice in the morning, and when qualifying came around, we set the pace with a 1:19.7 and won the overall pole by over 3 seconds!"Once the green flag dropped, Sofronas took a commanding lead on the first lap and lead the entire sprint race winning by over 7 seconds. Realize Pirelli is a sponsor but what's the most honest scoop you can give on the P-zero's vs a Michelin Blue or a Hoosier R100 if you've ever tried them or any other slicks you've tried.

The P Zero is more of a street tire but comparing the new Pirelli slicks vs the Michelin Blues........well Mich seems to be the gold standard but we have quickly realized that the new Pirelli slick is quite impressive. They offer the same initial grip and to this point match the performance of the Michelin blue slick. The Mich does offer impressive longevity as it pertains to performance over an entire stint (1.25 hours) but as we do more testing, we feel the Pirelli will be right there.
Stay tuned.
And regarding the new Pirelli Trofeo tire, I think it it easily surpass the peformance of the Mich Pilort Sport Cup.........we will soon find out as we test the first batch of tires in the new year.

Easily faster than MPSC? That's a tall order if you aren't talking about Nspec Sport Cups. Would be nice if they did though, they'd surely be the new standard in treaded R-compounds if that is true.
I'll bet they cost an arm and a leg, but with MPSC sleeping on 18" sizes, someone needs to make a tire that fills the gaps. Looking forward to the results.
