Easy to be swayed by public opinion hence the EP "heat" Leo is experiencing. I've had 3 EP systems and think they are great but if Leo wants loud, you're correct, he'll keep the TA.

Wow, just got through this thread...pack with good information. That being said, I am very interested in the Cargraphic loud exhaust for my 997.1. Can anyone tell me which vendors currently sell this exhaust?

Thanks,

Vin

Leo, wait...I am glad someone had asked you to explain! I did not realize your car was automatic, a bad assumption on my part. The problem here is the transmission type, not necessarily the Techart Exhaust's fault!

First I do agree with your assessment. Automatic transmission does present some issues, primarily because you don't have control over the engine RPM speed, and therefore exhaust sound. (While you could drive an automatic car in manual mode, I've always found it to be so cumbersome for some reason.) This brings implication of potential problems both with cruising (drone when rpm below 3000) and loudness as you have noticed.

I also agree with TT Surgeon and jhbrennan's points. Techart is a top notch tuner who knows what they are doing and make very high quality components. Now I don't know how loud it is but I do not think EP1 will be louder. Second, read jhbrennan's assessment closely (he is an EP pioneer and had it years before it became popular) - EP1 has great sound, but if it's loudness you are after, it's not the one. At the least, you should have gone for EP2.

Merely trying to help here: Unless you have so much $$$ to burn, I actually would NOT install the EP1. That way you could resell it as brand new and take very little hit. The GMG remains a potential candidate, but with an automatic car, I am leery about drone at 2000-3000 rpm (manual car owners cruise at 3000 rpm and therefore escape the drone problem, automatic car has no control of rpm in auto mode). Cargraphic Loud is also a candidate but I do not know whether it is louder than your Techart; it should from your description, but I don't know for sure. Lastly, I could see you are trying to convert your exhaust to catless: that might just work and to me is the best solution.

Lastly a subtle but important point: A good exhaust should not be loud at cruising RPM and/or constant low throttle because otherwise it would give you a headache like you wouldn't believe. It should only get loud say at 3300-3500 and above and at WOT. So if your car is quiet at cruising speed, that's the way it should be (mine is fairly quiet at 3000 rpm too). Good luck and sorry I haven't been of much help here; the automatic transmission does limit what I would comfortably recommend.

Yes, that's my problem (no a real problem) when I drive my car in Manual is all good because I can go high RPM but when is in automatic I just feel like trading my car for a ZR1

I think Chris, JH, Tom & you are right TA is a great company and the exhaust is really good, I just gonna resell the EP1... And keep my TA

I can send you some Swiss chocolate when I sell the exhaust :-)

A Zr1 will sound a lot better than our cars do and will be faster! Lol Well until you do some mods to your TT

Thank you guys! I just gonna sell the EP1 and keep the Techart

As we all agree Techart is a good exhaust, I had people trying to buy the exhaust from me for $1000!!! That's crazy! I'm not smoking crack! So I don't need the money so bad hahaha, I'm sure I will get what I paid for my EP1 back when I sell it.

TT Surgeon Jun 15, 2013 12:53 PM

Supply and demand Leo, for whatever reason, drinking koolade etc, ep is in demand, I'd add a couple of hundred when u sell, the ep tax.

EP is in demand for good reasons and for any user to say otherwise lends serious question. On Performance alone it delivers in a way most others would clearly struggle to match. There are members both on this board and RL that have tried many of these systems, some even that you are all arguing over yet they now "only" use the EP. These guys obviously know the difference between a system and a brilliant system. If Leo is purely after a loud exhaust and nothing else then the GMG amongst a few others would be the better option than the EP for sure, that i would agree with. But where performance and other key attributes for this car are concerned the EP has it sewn up. Koolaid aside Chris, there's always going to be the them's that knows, the them's that don'ts and the them's that will never know. Which are you? The proof of any pudding is always in the eating.;)

Leo, I'd still be interested in working out a GMG/EP trade... Drove the car today top up, and it's back to being too loud for me. :o
