Tcu???

I just purchased a 2010 911 Turbo. I've been reading the threads and searching them regarding performance upgrades. Even after all my reading I'm somewhat confused. Many of the threads reference the fact that the factory sport mode is retained. I'm guess this is referencing the 2009 model. With the 2010 model you get either the sport chrono package with sport and sport plus modes or you get it without sport chrono and there is no sport or sport plus mode. Did the 2009 models have some basic sport mode that I'm unaware of?

Before buying the Turbo I was looking at a non-turbo S model. I drove one with the sport chrono plus and one without. The one with sport chrono plus (with sport plus mode engaged) had much quicker, harder shifts and a higher rpm before the shift occurred. The Turbo I bought does not have the sport chrono plus package. So, it seems to have the same docile shift program as the S I drove without without sport chrono plus.

So, my question is this: is there any type of upgrade (ECU, TCU?) that will get me the more aggressive shift program of the turbo with the sport chrono plus package? It seems that all the ECU tuning deals strictly with the engine and not the transmission. I've read some references to upgrades on the older 996 models where they added launch control to cars that didn't have it. But I've seen nothing like this mentioned for the new 997.2 models.

My understanding is that Champion has already developed a transmission upgrade. I'm not looking to upgrade the transmission itself, only change the shift logic to something more like the sport and sport plus modes on the sport chrono plus package. The transmission upgrades I've seen have nothing to do with the logic, only an upgrade to the actual transmission to handle more torque. In other words, I'm looking for what I would believe to be a TCU (transmission control unit?) upgrade.

I see that it's been a while but I believe this is what you are looking for.... I had this done to my Boxster S and it's exactly what you want... you will receive a panel of buttons to replace your existing ones and the Sport mode software which is already built into your car will simply be enabled by your dealership with a special code... I would consider this upgrade a must and it's a minor miracle that Porche have made this available!

Cheers,

drvik
