How I discovered my 997... and why I went 3rd pedal
On a whim, stoped by the Porsche dealership with my 11 year old daughter to drive the Panamera to replace my 07' CLS 63.*
Drove fantastic, and the turbo had more juice them my AMG. *However... while there, couldn't help but notice the new 911TT. *Never even contemplated this ride as an option *
Holy crap!.. Stunning looks. *But at a buck sixty, more $ than I wanted to spend. Daughter implored me to test drive. *Wanted to keep the cost at/under $100K so looked preowned & test drove an 07' with TIP.
First time ever behind the wheel of a 911 TT. *I liked it. She LOVED it! *
Loved the look, exceleration and feel of the car. *Whether cooking down I-95 or carving up back country roads; hell, just driving in the parking lot I became the proverbial kid in a candy store. *
However, the feel of the TIP buttons was so different to me than the paddles in my CLS 63 I was just unsure...
So began the journey to discover the perfect 911 TT for me. *Started with private sellers. *Found what appeared to be a minty 08' on line and then, when finally receiving the correct VIN the day before driving 200 mikes to see the car, discovered the seller had misrepresented its history (he originally stated that it was "never in an accident", and was disappointed when I explained that anything causing an*air bag deployment and quarter panel replacement does, in fact, qualify as an "accident"!
At this point, as a Porsche novice, I began looking at at Porsche Certified. Willing to pay more, even if simply for perceived higher quality.*
Found two stunning low milage 08's. One with TIP, one three pedal...*
If I was willing to part with the funds for a 2011, I*might*have made a different choice and gone with the PDK. But I had a budget and wanted this car for fun. *Wanted to feel the road with its twisting turns and long ultra-fast straits. Wanted to be able to rev the engine with the drop of the clutch, to be, in a sense, one with my machine.*
And not to take away from the TIP. I use the paddle shifters in my AMG all the time. But I don’t generally focus on 0-60... experientially, I’m only shifting into hyperspace while first traveling at at mid range speeds (40-70), so If I drop the pedal, it's in gears 3/4/5. Shifts so fast it feels as if I'm in a lightning round returning Nadal's serve. And frankly, for me, it’s plain just more fun.
So I went with the stick. *And while I dig my 08' TT bone stock, couldn't help but feel the need for a bit more speed
Searching the web for ECU upgrades and cat-back bolt-on's is how I*discovered 6apeedonline. *
Great forum, excellent posts. *
So... Hope to become a contributor and add value to your sight. Already have the appointment in 3 days for EVOSIt ECU, cat-back, shift kit and intercooler upgrades. Will report back on how things go.*
I’m open to trying the PDK. Until then; I admit that I've become an addicted to the 3 pedal. And no 12 step program is gonna’ provide a cure...

Great story.
To me, it's amazing how kids can do this to us. Your daughter made you think at her level, a level of whimsical fun with a just a touch of practical.
Enjoy your ride, I know I feel like an 11 year old on a go-cart when I drive mine.

Thanks Everyone;
It was simply amazing observing the glowing, mile-wide smile on my daughter's face when we drove the 911. She loved it. My oldest daughter (16) drove the TIP when the dealer lent it overnight; further bolstering her insistence that she attend a Skip Barber racing school with me (how cool will that be)!
Conversely, my wife hates the car. Feels the same way about my modest collection of good red wine. Since she leaves both alone, unsure if that's such a bad thing!

I thought it would be a great bumper sticker but good sense nixed that idea.
You will love your turbo. They are great cars and bulletproof for the most part.
Good luck
