997TT all the way, its a totally different experience from C4S, although the 4S is a PDK, speed wise, the turbo is in a way diff league and if your daily commute is mostly highway, don't worry about getting tired of driving the stick on the turbo becuz this monster has loads of low end torque so u can just leave it in 5th or 6th most of the time without shifting down.

Ooops, seems since English is not my primary language, I used the wrong word - what I wanted to say was that C4S is a milder, less powerful and less demanding car...

Update....I must be mad.....

First things first - the 4S was already sold.....so I went to the dealer to try the 997.1 turbo again....and since it was not at the dealer when I was there, I went and tried Panamera 4S....great car, just a bit slow for my taste. So, I want to try Panamera Turbo and already arranged with the dealer to get me one for a quick test drive.

It's not the same as 911, but it's so good that I will hold my decision till I try it.

You know, after reading your statement about taking "up to 3-hour trips with the whole family (wife+ 2 kids aged 4 and 1)," I think the wife and kids will enjoy a Panamera more than a 911, especially on long trips. The 911's back seats are there for your race helmets and briefcases. I can't see a 4-year old, (probably five by the time you decide on what to buy) being comfortable in the back see of a 911. The wife and kids are probably more interested in Porsche comfort than Porsche speed.
<O</O

My wife rides in "our" 911 on short trips – about an hour or less to and from the destination. Our larger vehicle always wins on long trips. Of course this may have something to do with the way I drive when in the 997tt.
<O</O

Best of luck with your choice.

Vince

I know-I feel terrible. It's just that when it comes to cars, I'm like Goldilocks....

One more question though - I was looking trough German www.mobile.de and it seems that at the end of 2008 there were 997.1 Turbos with PCM 3.0 ?????
Example: LINK If I understand correctly, this is 997.1, with Metzger engine and PCM 3.0???? I did not know such cars existed at all....

No, no, no, no, no... We talked you from a C4 to a Turbo, how on earth did you jump 4 steps back to a Panamera? :-)
IMHO, if your thinking is any of the following, you would be grossly mistaken:
1. Panamera is a big 911 "replacement."
2. Panamera is a more comfortable 911 "replacement"
3. Panamera is a 911 with 4 door, etc., etc.

If you want a 911, get a 911. Once in your life you want to have a 911. Nothing feels like it, least of all a Panamera because of weight, engine placement, etc., (there is even a thread about this "mistake" on the Panamera forum -- I was there merely to discuss the Burmester ). Just trying to help here. Good luck and have fun with your decision!

Maybe it is just me, and I am not married, but I would sit down with the wifey and ask her opinion regarding a Carrera/either vs the Panamera. After you go for your Pan test drive and it is still in the running that is.

I see my brothers kids every now and then and I think they grow faster than weeds.

Hahahaha thats why you say that. Dear fellow 6speeder, after 25 years of married life I can only tell you one thing. There are certain decisions in life that one must make alone. For some it could be a 911, for some it could be the color on the wall to take 2 extreme cases. Women tend to try to put rational in what I consider to be an emotional choice (and this can hold for both examples of the 911 or the wall color).

To the OP: The invisible powers that control our universe have helped you by taking the lesser opponent out of the picture. Listen to the sign and get the Turbo. The 911 Turbo that is. You can escalate to one in a few years, losing a few tens of thousands every step - all lessons have tuition fees. I just have one question, which nobody seems to have asked. If you have thoughts about the manual turbo, have you considered a tip? Although very far from a PDK, it is still NOT a manual.

Good luck.

Thank you for good wishes...

All owners of tiptronic Turbo please forgive me, but the tiptronic is not and never was an option. PDK is an option only because it's very unlike the tip and (for me at least) closer to manual than tiptronic. Just for the comfort, not because of faster shifting than manual....

Why would you want to be "closer" to a manual and not have a manual (unless your left leg was blown off in a kiln accident or something)?

Further, unless the children can afford a better car than you can, what difference does it make? Complaints? Duct tape.

Finally, your wife's opinion is vital in determining the car she's going to drive.

Check your pants. Unzip your fly. Reach around in there. Get re-acquainted.
