Cannot do a cab since we have 2 kids and my wife feels that a coupe is much safer and more "butt" room. Also, much easier/comfortable for a child seat. Although both of us would love a cab for fun.

i'm going to be in your shoes in 1 yr- looking for a 997.2 TT.
by the way i vote for the coupe - lighter, stiffer, and better looking imo.

I'm in the same boat. While in Dallas the other day I actually measured the difference between the back of the front seat, appropriately positioned for me driving, to the back of the rear seat on a Turbo S Cab. Then I measured a coupe in the same way. There was over 14" more between the two seats in the Coupe! I didn't think it would be that much. On top of that the rear seats on the Cab actually permanently tilt forward making it very uncomfortable for the kid in the car seat. Really the cab shouldn't even have a rear seat... I'm going with the Coupe. It's several hundred pounds lighter too which does make a noticeable difference. I love the Cab though but in my case it just won't work.

I don't know. A Turbo should never be a cab. Just doesn't look right to me. Especially growing up through the years with the solid bodied turbos. Just to cut off the top of it ain't right. Now if the could some how make a turbo with no turbo wing and induction inlet I would like that much more. Just for a cab it looks like there is too Much going on there!

That is why I have plans in the works to get the R8 cab sometime in the future. After getting the misses Cayenne Hybrid, my 991 turbo, and then her 928 turbo, the two door Panamera when it finally comes out. Then its the Audi R8 cab. Then a 959 after our stock goes IPO; but I still need VC before that happens.

I am in No Cal (Silicon Valley) if it makes a difference.
How much discount you get will (obviously) be dependent on supply at the time, so it's hard to pin point a number. I would say if you could get 5-10k off, that's very good. I do not think the Turbo is in particularly high demand at this time.

One thing I have found is that small city dealers in California tend to give larger discount than the big boys. In Southern Cal Walter's Porsche in Riverside tends to give more discount than Beverly Hills Porsche, for example. You might want to consider calling dealers outside of Silicon Valley, such as Rector in Burlingame, or the guys in central California. Good luck.

BTW, I assume you know, next generation 991 is just right around the corner, right? Since you already have a 997 (?), waiting for next generation Turbo might be an option to consider.

I actually do not have a Carrera yet and am getting a Turbo since I don't think the 991 will get the Turbo right-a-way. (???) It may be another 2-3 years before we will see a 991 Turbo.

My dealer was actually telling me that Turbo is in much lower supply as more Turbo S are being built but this is from a dealer; it seems like every car is with very high demand and low supply when you talk to them. One thing I do find is that custom built order allocation seems to be very "scarce" and not every dealer has a slot.

I have already have my car in order for April delivery. My discount is not quite as high as the 10k you described but I am happy.

The 991 turbo won't be out for a few years. Don't know why the 911 has to wait a couple of years to get the turbo treatment while other models like the Panamera and Cayenne get forced induction straight away?

Ice Blue Metallic? HOLLY ****! When did that happen? Like I said at Rennlist IBM was pure VAPORWARE! As far as I Knew none were in existence in the States. But I did see one at the Porsche Zentrum in August at Pebble Beach. But each time someone went to order it on their S it would spit it back out at them. As a matter of fact it wasnt even on the S configurator last time I looked. I know a lot of folks were waiting months for it only to have Porsche tell them it would take longer. Amazing.

Test drove the car for 2 days. Porsche supplied it to a firm that supplies vehicles to TV and Motion picture production for product placement. Blue Ice with black interior. The seat bottom inserts and back inserts were blue. Really a pretty color combo and hauled the mail. My first experience with a PDK trans. This car "barked" when you shifted it. Loved it!!!!!!

This sounds like a very good combo.

Look like you've done well and you're correct, Turbo won't be available until 1, likely 2, years after.

Yes everything depends on supply; if the allocations are low they are not going to deal. Any discount would be good in this situation. When I ordered my 2008 Turbo, the best I could find was 1500 off MSRP; just a few months later the discount was more.

Congrats and welcome to the club.

I got my order confirmation from my dealer and it has this:

ORDER STATUS: ACPORD

I am just curious, what does this really mean? And how does the status flow change?

Again thanks a lot to everyone's feedback and help. Now, I just have to decide on if I want to have a clear bra on. (Don't mean to start a flame war. ) Never had it before and never thought I would, but a friend brought up an interesting point. My wife is going to use the car to pick up my son from school and swim practice, and most likely his backpack and gears will go into the front trunk. From his past experience, his children had scratched his front just by taking the packs in and out of the trunk. I am still doing my research.

I have been told by my Porsche dealer that IBM is not available. I was ready to order one... now I can't decide on a color. Aqua Blue would be next choice but I already have a 09 C2S Cabrio in Aqua Blue.

I am sure someone has posted a list once of the abbreviation. I'll look when I am home tonight.

Clear bra: I hope no one will start a flame war over this! Especially since you're thinking about it, my prediction is yes you will want the clear bra. I have had 2 997's, one with, one without. Yes it works as advertised, yes it prevents small rock chips (large ones you're out of luck), so yes you want it. One very good option to consider: arrange for the detailer to come to the dealer and install it before driving home. My car has front third of front hood and fender plus the outside mirror and to me that's enough; the hood line doesn't bother me at all (if it does, do the whole hood).
You're close to one of the best clear bra installers in Calif., Premier something (I don't have name or address).

It probably won't make a difference however, the car I drove was "Blue Ice" not "Ice Blue". Since Porsche owns the car I guess they can paint it any color they want.
It sure was beautiful!
