Escort 9500ci w/laser shifters

Guys,

The last radar dectector I had was 20 years ago. It was a dash mounted escort. I am planning on purchasing the new 9500ci and having it custom installed with the display in the mirror and the control pannel in the drivers A pillar (I think). Any suggestions on the install location or +/- to the areas I am considering?

Can someone explain how the laser shifters work? I am sppeding and the radar goes off, I hit brakes until I am under the limit, then hit a button to turn off the shifter and let the cops guy read the legal speed?

As you get closer to the laser gun, they will eventually get a reading. There aren't too many units out there that will jam all the way to the gun, though I am not sure about the 9500ci. Unless you live in a state where laser shifters are illegal, I wouldn't bother shutting them down. IIRC on the escort, you hit the mute button three times or something, and it allows them to get a reading/shuts the unit down for about 60 seconds. I don't shut them down here in KS and have never been hassled, eventually they will get a reading or not bother with going after you.

Radar on the other hand, is still giving them a reading if they hit you, as the units only shift laser, and not radar.

There are a couple of good install posts with pictures if you do a search. Though it is not 100% stealth, I highly recommend mounting the display unit near your instrument cluster so when it goes off, you can quickly determine the threat. Some have put it in the ashtray, and IMHO, taking your eyes off the road for a few seconds for a visual confirmation is not a good idea.
