Rain & Shine at LS with RE-11s

Stock flywheel is dual mass. Did you install a single mass flywheel as a mod?
#125
Whoops...I meant dual mass. Sorry..my bad. Single mass flywheels are not optimal for Turbos I'm told.
Stock ECU. Maybe I was just unlucky and had a bad one. NOT drag racing it. The good news is that the Sachs clutch should last a lot longer and be able to handle increased HP so it might be time to get a ECU flash soon! Just have to decide which one! Any suggestions?

Well I finally got the car back today. Wasn't really able to give it a full evaluation due to traffic and having a safe (long & open) environment to do sustained hard pulls through forth gear.
I can tell you this however; notable sound/tone difference, it sounds much deeper. The throttle response while feathering it between 5,000 & 7,000 rpm (ie throttle steering) is pretty amazing...think I may have eliminated ALL LAG in this range. Which was a major goal for me.
EH knows just how much I like driving in the meat of things whether on or off the track.
Monday will allow real world testing for the beast at Laguna. Near the end of the day I'll request a sound check and see what she blows under WOT. Previously a 102.9 at LS and TH got me at a 105 (BS, I don't believe it).
Was able to source a new Airbox, should be here Friday or Saturday. More junk for the trunk!
Hoping for 70's, dry, and sunny!
BUMMER: Just checked the weather for Monday. Partly cloudy L43-H58...hey its California, you never know what you'll end up with...

Better bring the TE Prius as a backup!
Its drivable... after all I've been driving like this for who knows how long now.?. Just need to keep an eye the duct tape job.

HUGE PROPS to Champion Motorsports for all the instant technical support and next day air deliveries necessary in making all this come together.
It's accelerating/pulling very strong and I'm so looking forward to running at Laguna on Monday!
Thanks again for all your support, top quality products, and impeccable customer service!

Gotta little road trip coming up this week/weekend. Heading down to Huntington Beach to meet up with Betim of BBi to have a VID/BBi Street CUP Half Cage installed. The design is based off BBi's Street CUP, however Betim was open to working with me (us) on a slightly modified version. Bonehead and I got together to do tandem builds and share some of the additional design and materials associated with doing so. Bonehead already has his in place. See thread:

In anticipation of the trip and the crazy weather we have been having I thought it might be wise to install a little body armor just in case I hit snow and sand going over the Grapevine.
A DIY Matte Black hood wrap & Yellow headlight covers.
Got the wraps at PepBoy. The hood came by 60" x 60" and was only $49. The headlights were a rip-off by comparison. They were advertised as 20" x 48" for $29. Upon opening them up the real measurements were 23" x 23". Out of principle I took them back to complain and to let them know the product was falsely advertised. Did the return, but I made them open the new wraps and check the measurements... guess what....they too spec'd out at 23 x2 3. So they gave me my original set and the new set for $29 (two for one), Yea!
So the hood is definitely a two man job, or in my case a man & wife job!!! I can't believe we didn't strangle each other. We took it on as challenge and mastered it!!! Pretty pleased with the end result. After seeing it completed I might pop for a professional install with real 3M products.
This is only a temporary install, thus I didn't want to spring for the real deal at this point. I plan on removing it after my April 9th LS date.
Work has been killing me lately so I haven't had time to do a write-up on the March 12th LS event, hopefully will find time soon.
Highlights: 44-52ºF overcast, R6's got to see some track time! Got nailed for sound on my second lap, first session of the day. Lifting, short shifting, and hugging the left side of the track (97.8db). Had to sit the rest of that session out
Etchhead was there, my wife and daughter made an appearance. Overall it was a great day. Never really got my RE-11's or my R6's up to optimum temps, but they both preformed well. Looking forward to 04.09.2012.
VIDEO from EH:
(RE/EH): I'm using a beta-version of Harry's that should go public shortly. It offers a lot of cool features including both pre/post time and the other tags you saw there. It also shoots straight through without stopping between laps if you wish- just sucks up a lot of memory. One of my sessions was 1.8G!
EH: We had a great day at Laguna Seca yesterday and the Hankooks held up pretty good. They were quite good and held up until the ~15min mark then began to get a bit slippery. They were quite easy to modulate the power on and you could dance the car into the hairpins but the traction control kept cutting power due to wheels spinning in 2nd and sometimes in 3rd. Managed to beat my last years time with street tires and stock exhaust. My best recorded time was 1:47.2 but think I broke into the 1:46 range later in the day but my timer was on the fritz. Here is lap chasing down a FAST factory Ferrari 458 race prepped car. This car was sick and came with a 5+ staff and loads of gear including 4 different wheel/tire combos. The car was fast, but certainly had lots of potential untapped.
Think the V12s are excellent street tires and probably good for rain days at the track, but as a pure track tire it will be a compromise. Maybe the SuperSports would be a great "compromise" if they make them in OEM fit. Otherwise I might be looking at track wheel/tire combo if I continue to push on this. Looking at doing another Laguna day April 9th so will give the V12s another beating and see if I can improve on my time.

The new Harry's Laptimer looks really good. I still haven't figured out how to get anything on the screen, like speed, track map, etc. I wish Harry would make documentation available offline.

Music Picks:
Okay, here's the deal... Phil Phillips is a real Artist....he is no American Idol...he is, "THE REAL DEAL".
Sidebar: Cass McCombs // Robin Egg Blue. Good Stuff, give it a listen.
EH: Give ruf_turbo a PM regarding overlays (Harry's).
Have a great weekend.
Southern Bound.
Cheers, VID997

Welcome to LA:
Took me four hours to go from San Jose to the Getty Museum off the 405. Then from the Getty to LAX/Palos Verdes ONE HOUR, FORTY-FIVE MINUTES! Clutching it the whole time.
Hopefully the 26 mile drive from PV to Huntington Beach (BBi) won't take two hours this morning.
