Which Oil For your 997TT's?
 

Curious to see what the DIY's are using for Oil in the 997TT's. I have been running Mobil1 0W-40 since day 1, Changed every 6months-1 Year. I just don't see why I should need a 0W-40 when I live in FL. Any other brands that deserve a try? Motul, Castrol, Amsoil????

I have been using Mobil 1 5-40 TDT(Turbo Diesel Truck), oil pressure is higher across the rpm range.

If you haven't been experiencing any problems, why change? I've been using the M1 0W-40 even in Texas where we had a summer with 90 days of 100 degree temps - no problems. My oil temp sits about 205 even on the hottest days, oil pressure is good and no usage.

Mobile 1 0w40 Seems to work fine and that is the weight what Porsche recommends. I think engine tolerances are a factor in this weight.

Mobile 1 0W-40 as recommended.

I use motul 300v 5w-40. change it twice a year.

If your car is still under the Porsche Factory Warranty, stick with Mobil 1 0W40. If there ever is an engine failure, Porsche may/will request a sample of the engine oil from the dealer. If it is discovered that you are NOT using Porsche approved oil, they may/will deny your warranty claim.

But after warranty, use whatever you like.

I stick with Mobil 1 because I feel that Porsche definitely knows better than I do.

I use Mobil 5W-50 here in Taipei.

Mobil 1 0-40 is the way to go...here we have high ambient temps but after oil sample examination from Blackstone labs they suggested that TBN of the oil is fine and intervals should be around 6500km.If your engine operates fine with 0-40 it is not ok to switch to a more thickier oil...Your oil pumps will have increased stress to circulate a thicker oil resulting in higher pressure,but less volume of oil per revolution of the engine...so less oil circulated per minute is called to transfer the same heat of the engine as before...thats why i awlays choose the thinner fully synthetic oil and stick with Mobil 1 0-40

There are dozens of oils from Porsche's "approved" list - the availability will depend on your location. There is nothing truly special about Mobil 1.

Quite right. Fwiw they have mine running on a different grade at the moment for the purpose of reducing consumption i never had previously. It's being monitored so it will be interesting if they have achieved a better result with the new grade. So far it appears better but too early to be 100% sure. My car never required any top ups at all until P did the first oil change at 6500 and ever since that point it started using. So I questioned what on earth did they put into it to change things. Normally a car uses more than normal to begin with then settles in, not the other way round. Porsche out here are certainly well aware of the oil consumption issues they are having with these new cayennes and panas. Apparently a lot of customers concerned and asking questions...and rightfully so when you hear the numbers:eek:, so they are experimenting with the different grades specified in the approved list in a bid to quench the thirst. I must ask them how they are going with those.
