White SharkWerk'd 997 TT Cabriolet with HREs

This white on black 2008 997 Twin Turbo cabriolet came in for our Stage II performance kit, including the EVOMSit software and a Tubi exhaust system (with TechArt tips). Also on the menu was a set of HRE P43 Monoblok wheels, the TechArt LED Day-time running lights and an MACarbon carbon console. Not a bad way to spend the day!

First things first, the EVOMSit software is calibrated for 91 octane and the performance exhaust:

Off comes the stock and rather restrictive exhaust system:

The lighter and freer flowing Tubi goes on in its place:

To round things off we installed the TechArt dual tips:

And on the inside an MACarbon rear main center console is installed:

Over to the front and the bumper is removed in order to install the TechArt controllers for the day-time running lights:

And installed:

With the bumper back on you can see the TechArt LED day-time running lights in action:

The 19 inch HRE Monoblok P43s in black:

looks good ,so the techart daytime lights don't replace the oem lights there a whole separate piece.

Don't these, and most Porsche's, have to use 91 octane, or higher? If so, what is the advantage of a new 91 octane calibration?

I thought it was 93 or higher for most porsches and cars outside california. In california 91 is the highest that readily available (thank our Berkeley tree huggers, etc), so most software will tune to run optimally on 91.

Nice job!

That's true it is 93 or higher but not in California, Arizona or other states that have 91 as the highest (I use that term loosely) grade gas. Hence we have to not only tune with what we're given but optimize it for 91 octane.

Thanks and that's correct it's an additional set up.

Something doesn't seem to add up. You're saying that you can't drive a Porsche in Cali. without a tune because you can't get 93 octane?

Not saying that at all:)? Not sure where you read into that... I was saying that here in Cali we have 91 octane so we do specific 91 octane tunes which sadly can't be as aggressive as the 93 octane tunes we also have.

Sharky,

Sorry if I came off as questioning you. I was honestly asking the question that if, as stated above, Porsches require 93 octane for their engines, how do they run on 91 in Cali without a tune? I was under the impression that they required 91, or higher, but ran better on 93...and that's where your tune comes in; to make them run better on 91.

Please excuse my ignorance.

Oh I see what you're asking;) Indeed it does say min 93 octane on the inside of the gas flap but we're stuck with 91 here and in other areas. You bring up a good point... Drive a GT2 or GT2RS on 91 and then drive it on 93 and you'll see the difference in the flesh:) It's not making the power they say on 91 that's for sure:mad: The way the Bosch Motronic works though it's going to run less aggressive timing, boost and torque etc... maps on 91. On 93 it'll use higher ignition mapping. So with the EVOMSit tuning a lot or R&D, time etc.. went into actually eking out all one could from 91 vs just the standard tune from the factory.
