My new HRE P40's

I traded in my P40's for some new ones in charcoal with polished face:

Looks more dramatic in the flesh. I also might get some better matching (more polished silver) wheel centres.

Erm I already have B16's look at my sig!

I only lower by 15mm as otherwise the ride is too rough over bumpy British back roads (where I have all my fun!). I started at -25mm, then tried -20mm then settled on -15mm as being the best ride. <= that is from 2 years of testing different configurations with my expert suspension tuner (best in the UK). In fact I just spent a fortune upgrading all my GMG toe-steer and dog-bone kits from cheapy FK rod-ends to aerospace MNB ones to help with the smoothness of ride (I will report more on this once my suspension expert sends me all the pics he took).

Pretty sure RSS use FK rod-ends (RSS, please correct me if wrong). Knowing what I know now I would avoid these like the PLAGUE! Both my rear wheels were wobbling and rattling after 15k miles due to the GMG parts using FK rod ends. The rod-ends had completely worn out on all toe-steer and dog-bones. Seriously expensive exercise to get them replaced by either top of the range Aurora or MNB rod ends. Plus I now have rubber booties on them all to protect them from the elements more in the future. Surprisingly the handling difference is huge now. It's like when you get to 35+ and your joints start creaking. 2 weeks of cod liver oil and you are fully oiled again. Same thing for the rod-ends. I started making a thread about this over on Teamspeed but I am waiting for my suspension guy to send me the evidence photos before I complete the thread: http://www.teamspeed.com/forums/997-...uspension.html

Alex, congrats on the nice wheels! I have a weakness for darker grey wheel too (your pics make the color a little lighter/more washed out than I remember?) and I agree this darker color looks better in your car than light silver. More contrast. Agreed also on the center caps - I think HRE could paint it for you so paint will match?

Excellent report on the rod ends. I've read many times about how these solid joints wear over time, but yours is the first actual user's report I've come across.
Please share if you don't mind:
1. How much is each MNB rod end?
2. Versus how much is the FK rod end?
3. Where did you buy the replacment MNB rod ends?
TIA.

I had 2 Aurora bearings (female) at £75 each for the toe-steer, 8 MNB bearings (male) at £100 each for the dog-bones. FK's are about £10 each I seem to recall. I got all mine from a UK distributor but this place I refer to over on TS looks like it's in the US: http://www.bakerprecision.com/rodhow.htm. The tricky bit is finding the right sizes to replace the parts you already have. We had to measure the old ones before we ordered new ones (so I have dimensions for GMG replacements if required).
