Tow Hook update picsX2
This is a "Real" functional retractable Tow hook custom install before i plain on lowering the car. Yes it is a silly question because there are a lot of Tow hooks out there just for looks take a close look at the real deal. I wanted custom that's just me!!!
I am also curious how its more functional than the stock tow hook that looks to be the same height as your custom one. So I don't see how your car being lowered or not makes a difference. And it sounds like you eliminated a safety feature for this "upgrade"?
There is a a lot of hood pins that are for looks. I bet I could get some custom ones that are the real deal with and without
emotions ^_^;I am legitimately curious though. I used the tow hook mount to put a license plate bracket on there. To use it for the plate I am prepared to take the bracket off. I know its really going to suck to have to carry around a wrench and put the stock hook on if needed
This Tow-hook is used for REAL track cars NOT show cars when you pull the hook it retracts back in when your not using it.I posted the pics for you too see so what's all the confusion it's pretty self explanatory. You don't have to like it i really don't need your approvale or care just wanted to share some pics. The emotions are because i feal like your attacking my POST not really looking to debate this topic. When I lower the car a Tow truck won't be able to get underneath the car without damaging if you think a $98 basic Tow-hook is going to hold up under pressure then by all means.

I'm also confused as to why lowering the car changes anything. Your hook seems to be at the same height as the oem hook.
If you are worried about some tow truck driver hooking his own hook up to the front subframe and pulling a lowered car up a flat bed and damaging the front bumper or spoiler with his straps; I'd imagine the results would still be the same unless the tech was also using boards or something else to get your lowered car on to the bed. I've owned some lowered cars previously and unless the tow truck driver knows what he is doing, you are going to have problems.
Basically if your mod is a true upgrade over an oem situation other being a little more convenient in that its there and you can just pull it out, verses pop out a plug, and screw on the factory tow hook I'd like to know about it. Honestly if my car needs to be pulled with a tow hook I'm already probably pretty inconvenienced to begin with. So using the oem hook isn't to much of a bother.
If its for aesthetic reasons and functional thats cool too. But you didn't really present it that way. At least not after a basic question was asked and you got defensive.
The confusion is, at least for me why you did it. That little plastic circle on the front bumper is a plug for an oem tow hook that should be in your frunk. I'm pretty new to Porsche and I've had my 997 turbo less than a year. If the oem tow hook is insufficient to pull you out of the grass on an "off" on a track or on to a trailer this would be surprising to me and useful information. I'd very much like to know if a factory component is not up to the task at hand.

p.s. as long as youre happy with your new tow-hook, thats really all that matters.
have u used that tow hook of yours? it doesn't look like it sticks out enough to put a hook on.
the stock tow hook works no matter how low the car is. it's puzzling why you went though the motion.
i know you just wanted to share your mod but would like to understand why you did it. the functional consideration makes little sense as the stock one is probably more functional than yours.
