Can't Shift Into Reverse *B&M Short Shifter*
I have a B&M Short Shifter in my '07 997.1TT(6Speed) It's been tricky trying to shift into reverse since I installed it a few years ago. But lately trying to shift into Reverse has become almost impossible. It's a 50/50 shot of it going into gear. I have tried shifting into 1,3,5 or 2,4,6 then Reverse, but no luck. And when it does get into Reverse it will grind the gear when slowy letting the clutch out. It will rarely just slide into reverse without issue.
Does it need to be Adjusted? |
Yes yes yes...Please get it adjusted now. Immediately. At once.

Does it need to be Adjusted? I have read (no personal experience) that for 997, B&M kit is *NOT* a compatible replacement. B&M was compatible in previous generation of 911's, but not the 997. For 997, you need to buy the authentic Porsche kit. A friend had B&M in his 997 and I vaguely recall there was also some problem with his fitment also - not the same problem as yours, but it was something similarly funky. IMHO the best solution is not to adjust, but to remove it and replace it with a Porsche kit. Vendor should give you full refund because it would seem to me he shouldn't have sold it to you in the first place. BTW I have the Porsche SSK and it has never had any problem and I would recommend it over stock without reservation - HUGE improvement. |
How difficult is it to remove and replace with a Porsche SSK? I am mechanically inclined. Just dont know how precise/technical is gets to remove.

If you give Suncoast Parts a call... maybe they could help with installation instruction. Especially if you order from them I am sure. :-) |
Suncoast has, I believe, the really handy shifter alignment tool for $12-13 which will save you time, frustration, and some bad words. Can is, as usual, pointing you in the right direction.

https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...tal-996tt.html This is how to remove the shift knob and console on a 997: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...b-install.html I think with both of those DIY guides, you should be able to complete the job. Let me know if there is anything else we can help you out with. ;) |
