I need your dyno geek's input here..

I have 09 987.1 TT With 6spd.
cat delete + x pipe (muffler delete)
BMC filter
APR tune,
Now I'm adding a set of GT2RS intercoolers.

I hear on the forum, I do not need retune with the intercoolers,
What kind of realistically number am I looking to achieve with the above setup in 93 oct?
Dyno?
0-60?
60-120?
1/4mile with what trap speed?

The car made 510/610 without the intercoolers before calibration of the tq.

Let me know guys.

Thanks.

unvmy996 Dec 5, 2012 03:41 PM

it wont be anything drastic especially with the gtrs ic's. as they arent as efficient as other good aftermarket ones.

aznevoviii Dec 5, 2012 04:12 PM

Sorry forgot to mention,
That dyno number was with FB 200cell highflow cats.

No mod after that is: catless and gt2rs intercoolers

But mainly im looking for over all numbers that i stated in the OP.

nevert00fast Dec 5, 2012 07:42 PM

510/610 on what dyno? I'm assuming that was crank HP?

aznevoviii Dec 5, 2012 08:54 PM

i think it was a mustang dyno, and it was at the wheel.
but i think the torque was not calibrated.
i was informed the hp is correct number.
i am sworn by APR tune.. i raced the stock turbo and WOW.. what a difference!!
almost pull couple bus length. :)

Nice, reason why I asked is because I have the same mods pretty much. APR + Fabspeed exhaust with 200 cell cats. This was on 93 oct right? Any dyno numbers with 100 oct? I have some 60-130 and 100-200kmh numbers both on 93 and 100 oct. But yes I agree with the difference between APR vs. Stock. :D

I have APR tune, a BMC and an EP1 exhaust (100cpsi). I ordered a set of GT2RS coolers too. I didn't do it for any extra hp as there won't be any I suppose. I did it to drop my IATs. Dropping IAT is important to have a stable timming advance and prevent it from being pulled back due to heat. Those coolers make your times stable too, so repeatability of your runs is gained. These are the reasons for the addition of those specific coolers. Don't expect any big numbers out of them. So it's not a direct gain in hp... the "gain" you have here is that you don't lose any power because of high IATs...
But please bear in mind that you cannot fine tune your car at all with APRs software to get the maximum out of your mod unfortunately. I had also sent an e-mail to APR regarding this matter and they didn't bother replying to me at all. They never do. Not a very professional attitude, right? :)

aznevoviii Dec 7, 2012 12:53 AM

I see. I only did pull with 93 oct. i am not only expecting from the coolers, but maybe with catless now, i might have gained a bit.

Im with the most of people, preparing for modified VGT turbines in soon future.. :-)

Please share some numbers, soon as i get hands on vbox, will do the same!

93 octane, temp 40F
60-130mph, 7.9 1 shift
100-200kmh, 6.3 0 shift. 6.6 1 shift

100 octane, temp 60F
60-130mph=7.5
100-200kph=5.9

These were done without power shifting. Having a 6 speed and stock redline kills the 60-130 times because you'll be doing 126-127mph bouncing off the rev limiter in 4th gear. If the redline was set to 7k I'm pretty sure the 60-130 would drop by .4 seconds, at least for me anyways. hilarious

^Basically. You probably will pick up about 20-30whp from the cat delete and ic change, but the gt2rs ic's are not worth the money IMO, you should save your money and buy the forge ones instead. I estimate your at 510-530whp now.

We are all willing to change our minds whenever a log appears that proves the actual claims. The GT2 RS intercoolers reduce IAT by at least 20 degrees comparing to OEM units and that was proven here by some 6speeders. Most other aftermarket intercoolers were proved to flow better, but cool worse than the stock OEM units. Needless to say that ALL these companies claimed that their units were super-efficient. So claiming something without any logs actually mean nothing to me.
IATs with a tune in a 997TT can go up to 80 degrees C or 175 degrees F after a couple of runs. The ECU starts to pull back timing right after 65 degrees c or 150 degrees F as far as I know. Members here could barely reach 50-55 degrees (120-130 degrees F) with GT2 RS intercoolers. So that is more than enough for cars that have just a tune and an exhaust. It's actually enough even for cars with upgraded VTGs up to 680-700hp crank maximum.

I know of at least 2-3 cars w/gt2rs ic users that have split the end tanks off at the hp levels you quote, which is why I stated...why waste the $$ on gt2rs's when you can spend a little more and get the forge ones which don't actually utilize a plastic end tank. I'm not referring to IAT's at all, as I'm not doubting there cooling capabilities...

Tom@Champion Dec 7, 2012 08:21 AM

The HP numbers on that APR software are so high...

I am DYING to know how much boost that software is requesting.

Alternatively, you can spend $70 to reinforce the metal tabs that grab the tank. Its not the composite tanks that can be an issue at higher boost & flow levels, its the grip of the metal tabs that bend around the edge of them. Easy fix/preemptive action if you're worried but understandable that some don't like to fiddle with parts.

If you're dead set on all metal coolers, I would highly recommend the ETS 16 row. They cooled better than the rs coolers up to 160mph then they started to even out. Took longer to recover but they handled the heat pretty well even when soaked. Champions are nice as well but more costly. Marstons if cost is no object.

Haven't seen temp data on Forge.

To the OP's question...

As far as power gains from an intercooler, you're probably not going to see a big difference in 0-60, 60-130 or on the dyno. Maybe a couple of mph in the 1/4 as you'll have a cooler 4th gear. Most of the gains of a good cooler start to show above ~140mph on a single pull or with more constant loading on a road course type environment when you can avoid the tiered timing pulls.

Mine reads 15 psi every time i am full throttle. Never seen it go higher or lower.
