Need experience, A3071 vs A3076's spool

Hi bros,

I'm about ordering a set of alphas3071 or 76s.
I want efficient power from 3500rpm.

Several guys here run those turbos, please let me know what happens if you run in 4rth about 2000rpm and floor the pedal, when does the strong accel begin with the both setups?
3200? 3500? 3800? 4000? 4500?

Thxs

P.

Does the 996 Alpha 3071 kit fit on a 997? The Tial webpage list it as a 996 product and dont mention the 997, I know they share engine so I am hoping it just fits but need confirmation.

Sorry for going off topic...

Really the only benefit we see around here to the alpha's are they allow you to do is bolt the turbo's to the factory headers, but for the price difference between alpha's vs a standard 3076 will almost buy you a nice set of headers!

This is a good point!!

So there is no difference between the internals?

Just the housing?

Thanks Tony for the feedback. Knowing what Mr. P is looking for (modified 993 TT sensations) and what I've read by the past about this very same question, I guess that the consensus is that the 3071 is well suited for tiptronics and 3076 for manuals, right? Anyone to confirm that and help P. close the deal? ;)

Yes but with alpha you can have internal westgates for less sound... no ?!

I thought with Alphas not mod to the exhaust?
Bolt on or not bolt on?

Ok, when I floor the pedal in 4rth with my 66mmVTG setup, real power (full boost on the logs too) comes at 3500.
Even if 950hp I don't want the power to come later.
But the torque peak could be about 4500 if the power at 3500 is already higher than mine!
So, who knows?
I don't want to buy 71s and swap them to 76s 3 monthes later because top end too poor, or buy 76s and swap them to 71s because too laggy!
...efficient at least as mine early 3500....

also a perk of an alpha 3076 is the exhaust houseing..Its between 63 and an 83 like the typical way of getting a 30 turbo..

Why are you looking at changing from VTGs?

Because I believe I reached the uplimit with pumpgas with vtgs, while midrange is ok top end is still too "lazy".

I run 47.55/66mm vtgs, I know CMS can provide 46.9/68mm ones but I don't think it will change a lot, so Alphas is the next option.

why you dont go with bigger VTG?with 49mm inducer?

Tiago Jan 26, 2013 04:45 AM

What other mods do you have in the car you accomplish the 71s or 76s upgrade? Who is doing your tune?

K24F Jan 26, 2013 06:46 AM

To GreekM3:

I believe the issue is not the inducer but exhaust housing wich is too small, 49mm is the absolute maxi allowed by the oem part.
Anyway, I have got at home my oem vtgs (6000 km in) I can send to mod if I change my mind...

To Tiago:
2.75" catless exhaust, bmc, 997.2ics, Protomotive Ypipe, Sachs lfw, Protomotive tune (tried several improvements on it with T.)
Past 5500/6000 we can map 1.25/30 to 1.5bar boost without changing the power, only the EGT and IAT grow.

Of course I can order CMS68, extrude hone them, rebuild the engine with rods and cams, bolt fenderwell and perhap's reaching 750hp DIN on my current dyno, but I believe the result will be better with Alphas for the money spent. (?)

Without more infos I guess the 3071s would be better for me, I prefer engines with very strong response at early speeds than ones with high late peak.
I just hope 3071's top end is good enough...
It is a pain there is no 997 alphas fitted 1000km around me to test!
