Solenoid on a 997 high pressure fuel pump

Anyone on this forum know what the solenoid on the HPFP does? I have a friend with a ‘10 911 Turbo Cab that had a failed fuel pump. Turns out the replacement pump is mostly unobtainium ... $5K if you can find one and the wait is in years.

I've inspected the pump and mechanically it appears to be functional, except for this solenoid. Does not actuate when applying voltage to the two terminals. Some rust is present on the external end cap of the solenoid, where the small pressed-in steel seal is located. Is there a way to disassemble the solenoid, after removing it from the pump body, to check for internal rust? Or is this not possible without destroying the solenoid?
