faiz thats what im thinking could possibly be the culprit.
the secondary fuel pump stayed on for several hours on a half tank of gas while the rest of the car was off.

Rix, thanks for the info. I had my FPR line disconnect a year ago. i checked it over the weekend and it was still connected.

i also spoke with apr, and they told me the car will always default into my first saved map (which is 93), so... im leaning toward fuel pump as well.

thanks for the info guys, now i just have to wait until the weekend .

Steve,

there is no such thing like fuel quality based maps that the car switches thru, so I assume you have a switch to select between two different tunes or to select the higher tuner after the car has started with the default one?

Best

Steve,

Your car is on the APR 100 Octane tune, you bought the car from Tj in Maryland right, had painted orange wheels? It has the 100 tune, that explains your knock woes.

Apr tune comes with multiple maps that can be swapped via cruise stalk.

Supra,
yup thats right. TJ's old car (tell him i said hello, did he get the zr1 ? ). I remember it was on 100 when i bought it. But i had it switched back to 93 when i was at waterfest in 2013. I never used the 100 oct file.
im trying to switch maps, but i think im locked out of the ECU. I dont know how to enter my security code (but i know the code), and apr is dumber than i am. They keep giving me instructions for a 996.
i have 4 files on my tune, and i have the order of them, and apr confirmed them via my vin.
My first map is APR 93 file. If the battery is disconnected, the ecu always defaults to map 1.

so even if i was, hypothetically, in 100 oct map, the ecu would be in the 93 octane file after the battery died.... so the ecu has to be in 93 now regardless. right ?

btw, at idle my timing numbers are 6 degrees normal, and - 6 w/ sport on. Timing was 29-30 until boost then it would pull and stay at 6 degrees.

Have you logged it before and seen different timing results? Or are you logging it now looking for the problem?

Rix i never logged it before this time. this weekend we'll log again, check fuel pressure and hopefully figure it out.
i need to figure out how to enter the password via my cruise control stalk so i can run through the rest of the maps and see how the car behaves.

I do seem to remember some others with the APR flash having issues like this. Maybe a search will pull up more info.

Button Functions 997 and 987 and Unlocking
Start the Engine
To unlock the security, enter the security code using RESUME (press cruise stalk up) and OFF/Cancel (Push stalk down) cruise buttons.
Turn the Cruise ON (button on the end of the stalk)
Press RESUME (press cruise stalk up) button the number of times per the digit to be used. (Please read through these steps once before attempting to enter your code)
OFF/Cancel (Push stalk down) function to be used to register each digit of the code.
So if your code is 221, you will push the cruise stalk up two times for the first digit, then press down once to confirm or register this digit. Next digit is 2 again for push the cruise stalk up two times again and then down once to confirm this digit. Finally the last digit is 1 so push the cruise stalk up once for the digit and then down once to confirm the last digit of the code.
If you have inputted this code correctly then you should see the Low Gas indicator lamp (MIL) flash confirming the EMCS function are unlocked.
Now understand that once you have successfully unlocked the vehicle the vehicle will stay unlocked until you lock it again or if the vehicle loses power. This doesn’t matter how many times you cycle the key off and on or start and restart the vehicle. If you leaved the EMCS functions unlocked and 5 months later you want to switch programs it will still be unlocked and you will not have to input your unique access code.

RESUME (press cruise stalk up) button to be used to switch between the programs. ECU can contain up to 4 programs, however can have only 1. If you have just 1 performance program the ECU will always be in this program even if the car losses power.
OFF/Cancel (Push stalk down) button to be used for Options or FCE/TBA and Security lockout. The options are always programmed in the following order, FCE is option 1 or one blink per second, TBA is option 2 or two blinks per second, to Activate Security Lockout (disable program switching or lock EMCS function) is three blinks per second or program 3.
Program switching is described bellow.

Program Switching Procedure 996 and 997
Start the Engine
Make sure security is unlocked in case security option is chosen.
Turn the Cruise ON
Select the program slot using the appropriate cruise button specified above by watching for CHK ENG MIL for 996T, and Low Gas Light MIL for 997 cars. Once you have released the button to select your program. Turn the Ignition key OFF
Wait 10 sec.
Turn the Ignition key ON but DO NOT START the engine and wait 10 seconds (during this time the ECU is actually reprogramming itself to the selected program that you have requested)
Finally turn the key off again and wait 5 seconds then cycle the key on and verify that no error messages are displayed on the MFD. (if you see error skip next step) Once confirmed that no messages are displayed you may start the vehicle.
If you receive error message please follow the instructions bellow
If there is an error displayed on the MFD, do not be alarmed this is not anything to be worried about. When the ECU is reprogramming itself it can not communicate to the other control modules on the vehicle which causes these errors to be displayed on the MFD.
Just cycle the key off and wait 10 seconds.
