I wonder how they've implemented it on this platform. Does it cut both ignition and fuel through the shift or just ignition? What level of adjustability do they provide?

Without FFS implemented most of the stress is to the clutch. Synchros can usually take the pain of a no lift shift here and there without any issues but without FFS implemented in the tune its harder on them too for sure.

I am not sure but EPL and Protomotive both have it available although Protomotive recommends against it because of the stress on the transmission.

They both call it "no lift shifting".

Yea NLS (no lift shifting) and FFS (flat foot shifting) are used interchangeably out there. Its not recommended to do these sorts of shifts all the time or frequently but with NLS properly configured it should minimize stresses on all components involved considerably.

The difference is the MB tip and the PDK are built to handle the shift, they shift fast enough and being a controlled shift you can ensure its safe. Put a human in the equation and now you have a mass amount of power being manually applied and if not done perfectly........... GRENADE

Oh the Tip and PDK are certainly built to get it done with the least amount of stress to the drivetrain as possible but as you increase power changes there are also required as you know, both on the hardware and the software side.

NLS setup certainly isn't an end all be all solution but when racing and going after numbers this is pretty much the way to shift a manual tranny as fast as possible while minimizing stresses.

We use NLS on the BMWs all the time. In the 8 years there we haven't had a single transmission failure with NLS configured on a car. Looking at the 997t transmission gears/synchros they seem to be far stronger than the BMWs. This sort of feature isn't for everyone obviously either.

Flat floot shifting is done on every performance platform out there. Either "manually" or implemented in the software. I have never once seen a transmission damaged by it. The clutch certainly takes the brunt of it if you are doing it the "old fashioned way" but with software implemented FFS, the power is disrupted while the throttle body stays wide open in essentially the exact same way the ECU interrups power and keeps the throttle plate open on a TIP or PDK car during a shift.

Exactly. I suppose if you were out there absolutely murdering the trans shifting faster than humanly possible, you might be able to nick or damage a syncro, but I'm not the slightest bit worried about the strength of the actual box. My clutch is up to it, and frankly it is only something that I'm going to do very sparingly until the feature is implemented in the software (and even then, only if I'm racing an auto or DCT car ).

Yes, I did it a lot this past summer and my 996TTS did not like it even though she was tuned for the NLS..

YMMV

A418t81 - I have done some damage but it is minor...... then again I am not nice to cars.. my poor old E39 BMW just blew the tranny and in rote engine (RIP - was a GREAT car)

Make that a 6.700!!

New graph in the first post. Main changes are better weather, and less fuel (I did the 6.9 on 3/4 tank, now about 1/3 tank), and I started in a slightly different position on my "test track"

Looking around this morning, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, but this seems to be the fastest vbox verified time on pump 93 octane for OEM 997.1 turbos out there with full disclosure on mods and even our datalogs posted I bet a Tiptronic car would score a mid to low 6 having no boost dropout through shifts.
