Cool project, congrats, any particular reason for going new spring/shock setup instead of coil overs?

M3 Maestro Mar 18, 2016 06:09 PM

Honestly this setup will work well for my requirements which is a full bolt on street car. This car will not see any track duty it may see a couple nights per year at the local drag strip. The Eibachs lower it .8" only and I coupled it with the sport shocks made for lowering springs. I did not want to install the springs on 73k mile old shocks. The money saved by not doing coilovers could now be used on other mods. If the car saw track duty or driving events I would have gone for coilovers.

Springs and shocks going in this week, Eibachs with Bilstein sports.

Parts waiting for install after that are new brakes (rotors & pads) and a 70mm Kline exhaust from Sam (awesome service highly recommended).

Still looking for 19" BBS LM-Rs, may have to buy new tough finding used.

Congrats on the new ride! Nothing like a 997TT. I have the F80 at the moment and share the same sentiments as others...

e92 M3 + 997.1TT is the perfect combo.

Love the color. I had an F80 that I did ED on, and raced at both Spa and the Nurburgring. It was a fun car that I enjoyed, but I let it go for my GT3. A worthwhile sacrifice, I'd say ;) I have a modified 335is for a daily that I enjoy immensely for that duty. It feels faster than the M3, though it is not.

I have read through your build posts on the 997 turbo, phenomenal performance. My first round of build will be similar, in the future upgrade turbos.

If you mod it and tune it right, you might second guess the bigger turbo build depending on your usage and needs, particularly if you run it on E85. The power and acceleration of my car is absurd and I came from a modified E85 GT-R. I actually have a more powerful flash in the car now than when I ran my 5.9, but unfortunately the muggy weather has already set in where I live. I'll have to wait until next winter to re-set the record.

After your E85 posts and Robs posts I was looking seriously at putting in a set of 1300cc injectors over the next winter when the car is stored anyways.

That's a perfect time to go ahead and install the silicone turbo inlet pipes. You basically have to get the stock plastic ones out, or you have to drop the engine to safely do the injectors. They can cut and pull your old pipes, do the injectors, and then throw the new turbo inlet pipes in then. Of course, you are going to need a Sachs "2.5" clutch to hold even the power you can make on 93 octane following that.

I may try to do the inlet pipes before then Over winter I was thinking any maintenance, plugs, and injectors. I will likely fab up my intercoolers and exhaust manifolds then. Depends on my free time. Yeah saving for clutch too $$$ lol

ECS Tuning intake system came in. Very nice piece, a few pictures below that wont do it justice. One of the nicer intake kits on the market today in my opinion. Another nice feature is you can use the 997.2 turbo air filter as your dry filter or use a BMC. I will couple these with aftermarket intake pipes to the turbochargers to finish off the intake track to the compressors.

I've considered LM-R's myself, but as far as I can tell, you would have to run a 20mm spacer in the rear to make it work. Do they by chance make these in wide body fitments, or would we have to run a spacer? Any concerns with running such a huge spacer?

Car is beautiful by the way - looking forward to seeing the progress!

Yes you would need spacers in the rear, they only offer one offset. I believe AWE's car ran them with 32mm H&R DRM spacers in the rear.
