Slick sizes and tire options for 18's for 997.1

Getting my car back soon from installing Alpha 9 kit and some other mods. Grabbed a set of 996 18" turbo wheels for slicks. Curious what sizes I can run on these for slicks and what tires people have experience with? Car will be dragged race a few times just to see what it does and maybe a light auto cross in future.

What sizes are the wheels? 18x11 rears? 18x8.5 fronts?

I believe fronts are 8" and rears are 11". It's the rims in the pic attached.

You could use Hoosiers in 255 and 315 sizes. That maintains the diameter difference 3% to keep the awd happy. 335 rears will also work, but would be a bit squeezed on the rims. The bfg rival s is also a good option, and it comes in the large 18 sizes. Almost as sticky as the Hoosier a7 but much longer lasting.

Ended up going with Nitto NT01's. 245s on front and 315s on rear.

use mickey thompson 305/35-18 s/s drag radials. tons better than nittos and you can actually use them in the rain if caught on a highway storm

Couldn't find MT fronts that worked for a 997. Plus I plan on trying the car out on a track, figured the NT01s can help serve both purposes. They are pretty sticky, picked up all the stuff off the floor of my garage!

you find any drag radial the has a matching front. i run michelins up front with no issues.

Didn't want to get two sets of tires, one for drag and one for track. Figured the NT01s would be suffice to serve both purposes. Will see how it goes in the spring.

305/35/18 Mickey will be the perfect size for the rear and you can keep your 19s on front as is.

These tires are the same size. Have you heard that these will be ok for the differential? You usually see the rears 3% or approx 1" taller.

Do not install the 315s. Wrong size. You want the 305/35/18 NT01s. NT01 245/40 and 305/35 is 25.5/26.4 tall. NT01 315/30 is 25.2" tall. No go...

Why are they the wrong size? I have 325s on my 20s.

32krazy! Dec 4, 2016 07:30 PM

fronts need to be taller than the rears on awd
