997.1 Pdk steering wheel upgrade
Hi everyone!
I'm new here and I've been looking on the forum and I see that some people have been successfully been able to upgrade their Tipronic steering wheel to the new PDK paddle shifter wheel from Suncoast. I called them today and they said that for the 997.1 they do not recommend it as they were unsuccessful in upgrading the car they had. Ps, I do not have multi function. Just tip Can anyone share with me if you have done one recently? |
It can be done. Many have done it including myself. You just need a wheel, air bag and module. Then it will need to be programmed with a piwis.

I talked to the Porsche dealer and they said that although the part numbers are the same they could be a different steering wheels or module from when it was done a year ago. Anyone do it recently? Also I can't order the airbags now from Suncoast.

You can get the wheel and airbag from ebay or contact shadow993 who is a member on rennlist and I believe on here also. He has sold a bunch of wheels. He even got a 991.2 wheel to work with the paddles. Then order module#99761328901. Then you just need to program the car for pdk with a piwis. If the dealer won't do it then find a indy who will. It only takes about ten or twenty min to do. I don't understand what the dealer is saying about part numbers. How could they change a part and keep the same part number. It would still have to work in the application it was made for or you could never get the right part for your car.
Cheers |
I have a PDK wheel for sale, let me know if you are interested.

No Problem. You will like the paddles 10x more than the buttons.

OK so I've been able to track down an Alacantara 20109 Pdk paddle wheel. I also ordered the module. Lastly I'm looking at getting an airbag. However the dealer wants 1600 for a new airbag. I'm not having much luck looking for it online. Ryan at Suncoast gave me the airbag part # 99780308924. I found a different airbag online but for the 997 but when I checked with the dealer they said it's for the Panamera. Can anyone confirm if that would work? The airbag I'm able to find on eBay is 97080308905A34. Thanks in advance!

Be careful on the bottom there is a small clip holding the cover together https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...94664ea007.jpg Everything just comes apart at this point remove the clips and plug and play https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...7ca441f18f.jpg Taking apart the cover it just comes apart. I used a small flat head screwdriver and worked from the inside of the center left and right to open https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...0aed705556.jpg Once you open it you can slide the entire thing out to get to the back https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...826efa8a2b.jpg Clock spring is held in place with clips. Once you unbutton the yellow clip on the back right top corner https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...26d5014c50.jpg Two at the top https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...04925f124e.jpg Right side https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...2cdf5280bf.jpg Left side then just pops off https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...7adcd82971.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...f91556893d.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...009e86adfa.jpg These are t10 I had to go and buy a set at the hardware store to access as my drill bit ones were too short https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...69b3592c8c.jpg One T 10 at the bottom and use Allen wrench to loosen the center it was a 4 mm https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.6sp...c2f80dcf96.jpg Finished product |
