More problems-997.1 turbo pink fluid leaking and loud whining sound

Noticed a pink fluid has leaked from front driver side of car. What could this be? I searched forum and my guess is coolant or anti freeze? It’s slimey to touch but not thick like oil.

Also do have a loud whining sound coming from engine bay. The sound changes in pitch and loudness with RPMs. Turning steering wheel while parked doesn’t change sound, only Rrpms. forum search makes me think tensioner pulley. Any other ideas what could be?

Do these 2 symptoms indicate a problem that could be related to each other?

Any advice? What a great New Year present from my 997.1 turbo. Anyone want to buy it? Really not interested in wasting my time on this car or playing the never ending “repair game” with Porsche.

The pink fluid is the OEM coolant. Leaking from around the front rad it sounds like. Also coolant = antifreeze.

better to have a radiator leak than engine out coolant pipe leak

pink fluid is coolant. whining sound can be a water pump going bad.

Could be Water pump failure in the engine bay. (edit, Prodigymb beat me to it) That would make them related items. The front are probably the front radiators, I had a rock go through one of the fins and create a small leak.

I just had the water pump and clutch fluid reservoir (not the slave) replaced on my '09 ~37K mi as they were both starting to seep. These weren't very expensive fixes at all in P-car terms. I hope yours is something relatively minor as well!

wkp, sorry to hear about starting the new year with this leak. Hopefully an easy fix. Will throw my 2 cents in to bite the bullet and spend ~$4k to buy one of those extended warranties for the peace of mind. My warranty just saved my ass for an engine-out coolant leak repair this past month.

The water pump was supposedly replaced before I bought the car. They sent me pictures and invoices as work was being completed. Could a water pump go bad again in just a couple months?

No, it's not the pump. Whining could be the idler pulley(s) or the SAI pump.

Pressurize the system and you will know for sure.

that's like the car's only fault and would've been cheaper if you paid cash versus warranty.

Do I need to do anything to prevent anything from freezing and breaking? It’s below freezing next few days. Car is just going to sit in garage until I have time next week to deal with it. If there’s anything that can freeze and crack now, what can I do?

Did it all leak out? Check the reservoir. Pop the trunk and look to the left, make sure it's full. If it's just a small leak, it's fine.

Only if you added water to it. An empty system wont freeze or crack.

wkp42 01-02-2018 05:19 PM

Just check anti freeze level. The resivoir in engine bay was almost full and I didn’t add water. On another not how do I get to the pulleys without taking back bumper off to see if I can tell which one it is? I took air filter out but couldn’t figure out how to remove air box. Also once airbox removed what can I do to prevent dust being sucked into air pipes and damaging engine.
