Removing Cats

When I bought the 997tt, here in Mexico, it came with the AWE 650S, which includes intercoolers, headers, Giac Tune, plenum, 200 cell cats and exaust, all AWE, then I changed the headers for Switzer, the silicone air intakes, GT2 turbos, and Markski custom tune, now I think that with the new turbos, the 200 cell cats and the exaust begin to be restructive, I think of removing them together with the exaust, and putting them direct, not even with X pipe ... Do you know if this could have any problem?

I went catless a long time ago. No matter how hard I've tried and how many times I've gone to the shop to get the damn CEL to go away, it just wont. I didnt put the dongle thingy some people have said to use to fool the sensors so maybe that would solve the issue.
I hate dealing with the CEL on all the time and it has caused me to go visit the shop a few times to ensure there's nothing else wrong.

I use 02 extensions for cars and never get a CEL. Every turbo Porsche I've owned without cats. (without tunes)

hmm...maybe I need to do the extension thingy then.

I also have a tune. But the tune should not be throwing a CEL

Running a Switzer catless exhaust on my 04 996 x50 turbo. Was getting check engine light every 50 miles which drove me nuts. Tried the O2 sensor extenders with no luck. Ended up going with a Cobb mafless tune modified to knock out the O2 sensor codes. Been good for two years now.

I'm on a custom tune (stage 2 plus) from Cobb also and that motherf#%er wont go away. I turn it off and after 100 miles or less, I get the damn light come back on. So annoying.

Quite an ordeal to get the software right. Bought the Cobb from Sam @ By Design. Because my car has the X50 option there was a problem with the software design. Between Sam and the engineering dept at Cobb a solution was found. Perhaps you could contact Sam at By Design with this problem. He may recall dealing with this.

You shouldn't have an issue...reach out to whoever did your Cobb tune. I have a custom Cobb tune with no issues with cels...

Thanks man. I tried to reach out to Mitch a while back many many times without any success. I'll send Sam a note and see if there's anything he can do to get the tune fixed.

Mitch left Cobb I think. He was the master but I'm sure Sam can fix the issue too...

Old Thread but I had a great experience with Sam also. No more CEL resets!

Old thread but I'll add....the most recent X50 program does not allow for a catless X50.
We are looking for a work-around. Ideas welcome.
