new ferrari 599 Fiorano costs $260k and is a LOT faster where it counts: 997 Turbo 0-125mph: 12.8 seconds 599 Fiorano 0-125mph: 11 seconds even if Porsche are being conservative with their figures, i doubt they're close to 2 seconds conservative! of course, on a twisty road and other real world driving conditions, the turbo's AWD and low-down VTG torque will probably more than equalize things. but on a long straight highway, or an airport runway, that new ferrari looks fast. no surprise, since it has the same engine as the Enzo! looks wise... IMHO our favorite uber beetle just can't hold a candle to the Fiorano! |
hesperus,
Considering the Porsche has 480 HP, while the Ferrari 599 has 620 Hp there is an advantage of 140 HP on Ferrari's side. This taken into consideration, whenever the tuning mods are available, i doubt it would take more than 10 Grand to beat the 599 times. Thus still making the Porsche 997TT much more afordable. All Wheel drive system rules as well. Just for a quick update. |

Just for a quick update. of course the Ferrari is faster, for the reason you pointed out (140HP advantage). but while it is twice as expensive as a 997TT, it is "only" $260k, which puts it a LOT cheaper than $400k. as for modifying the Porsche to make it faster, i don't doubt for a second that if you spent half of the difference between the 997TT's and the 599's price, you could make the 997TT very quick indeed. but that's a modified car, and once you go the modified route, all bets are off. beyond that, i also did say that in real world conditions, the 997TT will probably be a LOT faster than the 599. the porsche is more compact, has AWD, and that monster torque will make all the difference in situations involving lots of braking and cornering. cheers! |
