We were going to go with the Fabspeed Exhaust system but because it's Fred we popped on the bypass pipes and high flow cats instead. I have to say harmonics/resonance is not as much of a factor on the 997TT as it is on the 996TTs. Actually it reminded me of the 993TT bypass pipes in terms of the tone but also in terms of not being as loud as the 996TT. Lot's of 993TT guys drop their mufflers and go with bypass pipes and I can honestly see this being a good/cheap solution for those that don't mind waking up some of the neigbours. It's not obnoxiously loud like the 996TT with straight pipes. It's obviously a large weight saving too (around 55 pounds), which is always nice in the rear end of these cars. Even though we haven't installed the mufflers yet, they're a nice two piece design this time to allow for heat expanision/motor movement and seem well made (Mike tells me they're quite quiet too).

Installation is good deal more of a hassle than on the 996TT because of the way the 02 sensors are placed and the size of the cats (gee thanks Hans and Frans). Whilst I was under there we noticed the Porsche carried over the same 996TT headers (part numbers are identical fyi) and at least the intercooler cores look to be the GT2 ones. The bumper really does need to come off though unlike with the 996TT which you can leave on for most exhausts.

Since Fred needs to do at least 5 workouts every two hours and with the install taking longer we gave him a back-stage pass to our gymnasium....

I've also taken a picture of the intercooler core so you can see that you guys basically have the upgraded X50/GT2 intercoolers.

Today I almost had a really good photo opportunity since we had a silver 993TT, a silver 996TT and of course a silver 997TT. The only problem was the 996TT was/is a cab so all you have is a "911 turbo Evolution-type" photo minus the 996TT instead. Plus it was about 150 degrees out there today so parden the lack of quality....

I would say the Europipe would be the quieter of any. Bear in mind he wasn't exactly "gunning" it. When he comes back for the next round we'll go out and do some proper runs in 3rd gear etc...

Thx Alex... any dyno results of this system yet? would fred sacrifice some low end power but gain more on the higher rpms without any backpressure now?
