Aftermarket Exhaust - void warranty?
 

I'm looking into getting an exhaust system for my 07 997 C2S. I'm really just trying to acheive a slightly louder exhaust note and am looking into the AWE mufflers (researched here: https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78349&highlight=exhaust)

If I get the AWE mufflers, is my dealer going to void the warranty? I know that different dealers and different car makes all treat the modification-warranty issue differently, but wanted to see peoples experience here.

We all know that just mufflers aren't going to hurt anything on the car, but I've heard of dealers going to the ends of the earth to try to prove that something nominal was the root cause of a failure.

muflers will not void a warranty why not ask your dealer in advance?

Really just depends if your dealer is mod friendly or not. Some dealers have no problems with aftermarket mods and enjoy them whereas other dealers think it is sin. Ask them like posted above.

I had NO problem with my dealer with FABspeed exhaust and headers

No problems with my dealer(Pioneer Centres, San Diego). Gemballa headers, sports cats and muffler.

I figured the dealership would be ok with it. I still have to call them though.

Out of curiosity, will a Porsche dealer void the warranty on a turbo with aftermarket exhaust? Putting exhaust on a turbocharged car is a different story, free-r flowing exhaust get raise boost level, and more signifcantly raise power levels.

Shouldn't be a problem. my dealer recommended I keep the stock exhaust system just in case corporate Porsche raised any issues. They would put back on if needed ,to comply with warranty

Same story here - I was concerned about my mods voiding the warranty...I stressed to the dealer that I didn't want to do anything that would void the warranty. That being said, I got the full AWE exhaust, EVO intake, GIAC flash, and RSS plenum installed...all with full dealer assurance that they wouldn't void the warranty.

Neither a dealer or a manufacturer can modify a warranty once extended.

The dealer certainly has absolutely no standing to make any such absurd claim and if he does there is a host of tort and contract actions available in claim against the dealer.

Likewise a manufacturer cannot unilaterally alter a warranty.

If you have a warranty claim the manufacturer must establish that what you did/altered directly caused the warranty claim. Good luck on that one too!

In reality you may have to retain counsel, but relief is generally not far away.

Do be fooled. Be educated and know your rights. Would you allow any government person to search your home w/o a warrant in violation of your 4th amendment rights?

Don't allow the same with this scenario.
