radar detector

I just purchased an escort which needs 12v connection. I hate the cord and realized there is 12v power in the light assembly over the rear view. Problem is I used a volt meter and cant seem to find the right wires to get a 12v power feed that doesn't cycle off when I close the door. Has anybody tried this successfully?

I have tried all the wires up there, including those for the sunroof. If you don't have the autodimming mirror (I don't have it), the best bet it is to run a wire behind the a-pillar down to the fusebox.

How do you remove the trim at the windshield and pillar?
