In-dash Pioneer NAV

I'm thinking of taking out the factory NAV system out and having the pioneer NAV system installed...its sweet....comes with 30 GB hard drive and can transfer all music to it and has a lot more.

http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pn...070352,00.html

I was wondering if anyone has gotton it installed in their car?

TIA

Hello rah79,

I don't think you should install that into your car. The Nav. screen you see in car is NOT the nav unit, but the PCM. You DO NOT want to remove the PCM as it is the controller for many other functions for the car! Nav. is only one of the function the PCM controls.

Just my 2cents.

Peter is right. Get yourself a portable GPS. I have the Garmin Nuvi 350 & plan on upgrading to the bluetooth 660 or 680 model. One of the nice features is the "top speed" function. On one of our Seattle runs my Nuvi documented 146 MPH on the way to Mt. Rainier.

Is there a way to mount a unit in a 997 so it does not look like its just been stuck somwhere?
Im increasingly frustrated with the NAV system...

The Garmin bean bag mount just sits on the dash. It stays put in normal driving, but not sure about the 140mph stuff. I use my BMW NavIII Garmin for both car and bike, and it works better than most factory units. Plus has tracking information, and can be downloaded to your PC.

The Nuvi 660 with blue tooth is great, but it is a tad akward under my mirror

Here is a link to the Bean Bag mount.

https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?pID=8100

This eliminates the windshield mount, and stays fairly well on the Porsche dash.

If you remove it, I'd be interested in buying the NAV (not the whole PCM).

Restless - can the power cord be hooked up to the Garmin bean bag? Is anything additional required? Looks like a better option than the suction cup

Thanks

Guys, you don't lose anything except the logging of your lap times inside the unit. All you guys told me the same thing and I researched it and did it anyway. You lose nothing but the lap logger. I'm glad I did it. The nav is so much better in the Pioneer. The sound is much crisper if you're going to be upgrading the system (can't really do much with the stocker either). Also, the Pioneer accepts the iPod, both music AND video. So I put my iPod in the glove box and watch Bullrun, or anything else I've downloaded off iTunes, on my head unit. The Pioneer even has a gyroscope in it to tell you through a cool interface what your Gs are, right and left and forward and rear (I think... car's at the race shop).

The touch screen won't frustrate you either. Mine's an AVIC-D3, or something like that. $1000 or so for a much improved unit.

for me i like the oem look of the PCM than any aftermarket install. Plus don't you have to rip out all the speakers nad componenet since it's no longer on the MOST fiber loop?

The install is fairly simple and you do not need to replace all the speakers in the car.
All you need is the the new HEAD UNIT / NAVIGATION and 1 or 2 amps + some crossovers and Labor. Depsnding on the car you can also do a nice subwoofer in the rear . No additional space needs to be taken up.
If you are interested in seeing pictures of complete systems or simple systems feel free to email me .
