997.2 C2S vs 2008 c6 corvette - real world

I have been trying to compare these two for a while but the best I can find is the 997.1 --- so what is your guys take on these two cars when it comes to straight line performance? Particularly 0 - 60, 0 - 100, and 30 mph roll. I know that porsche always understates their numbers and the c6 has to be driven just right in order to launch right etc. Plus you have the 997 weighing about 100 lbs less AND being able to put all that power down effectively.

The C6 in question in the 08 or high which has the Ls3 rated at 436 hp (with the dual mode exaust option) and 424 lb-ft. In theory you are looking at a 0 - 60 run of 4.2 and 0-100 in 9.5 ... (so it says in mags) while the porsche is 0-60 of 4.5 or so .. again this is what magazines "say" but every thing i have read says it could be as low as 4.0 seconds ... and a 0-100 of 10.5 secs but this could also be faster --

So what do guys think / or seen in reality ...

The C2S especially if it has PDK i think is unbeatable, especially from the particular vette...

I have seen stock Vettes at the drag strip, and believe me... unless you have drag radials, you are not going anywhere...

A PDK C2S can launch perfectly every single time...

Now if we are talking for a manual car, again i think it can launch better than the vette because of the RR configuration...

Car and Driver got 3.9 with a 997.1, so it seems that under 4 is a good possibility, even with a stick.

Straight Line Speed 997.2

Take a look at this Japanese video and note the real pdk advantage is 30mph to 50 = 2.4 sec.

Also -- I must confess - i actually have a 2008 c6 but I want a porsche in the worst possible way...... but there is no way I am going to trade up only to be beat by the car I just sold (or traded in) .. yes call it childish but its just a standard I have. I am probably going to end up going with a 07 or 08 TT -- but i was wondering if a 997.2 could walk a vette - just a good piece of info to have when looking ..

FastestLaps

The two cars are both great. The difference is the quality and the utility (the extra seats are used every weekend in my home).
Check out the comparison below :

The 08 vette would not be my choice of the two. It is slower and it was also built in the year where GM went through huge obstacles . The current Zr1 on the other hand is ferocious . It will cream the 997S and can take a 997.2tt once the tires warm up . It would take a modded Turbo to beat it on a straight run .

I just don't like the corvettes . I have always felt that the odd shaped designs and mediocre build quality leave room for improvement . Add to that the chevy customer service and the enormous depreciation along with it's middle aged styling .. I view it as a very fast has been. Just not my style .. but to each his own.

Guys - i do not want this to turn into a vette bashing thread - I know that it can not campare to the superior craftmanship of a porsche -- at the time when I bought the c6 it was the best choice in terms of power for the price.... and the that is buying a new one so I got the added benefit of a warranty. I just want to know that if I decide to get an 09 C2S -- I wont pull up to a light and have to worry about another c6 beating the crap out of me --- like i said - its a bit childish but its an ego thing ... what can i say I'm immature ....

That being said I love that V8 -- puts a smile on my face every time I put the pedal down.... I guess what why I'm asking these questions is that I'm hoping I will get the same smile when I floor the porsche as well (C2S). I know it wont have the torque - but speed is speed .. so if it can do it as fast -- or even possibly faster than I will be happy.

To erase all doubts ... an 07 turbo with a flash and exhaust will walk a C6 and beat the 997S.

Before I got my 997 I also thought straight line perf was priority #1 or 2. But, after having one all the in-tangibles that people can't quantify or measure in 1/4 mile revealed themselves. The car is just a joy to drive, and will put a smile on your face for many reasons beyond acceleration.

I did a small write-up right after I bought my 911 comparing it to my '06 C6 that I sold. It goes into different areas that you may not be interested in but I'll leave it to you to gleen out of it what you want.
