My encounter with the new R8

It was a great Sunday morning this week, to get a sunny day around 50 degrees in Long Island NY this time of the year is hard to come by. So I woke up early and went to a car meet that happens every Sunday near the beach .On the way back home I passed a new R8 and I must admit it looked nice so I beeped and gave the guy thumb up. I was entering into a turn so I put it into 3 and floored it .I looked back the R8 took the bait and tried to catch up .I redlined it in 3rd and he was still 4 to 5 cars behind me keeping up but not catching up. I went into 4th and floored it all the way to redline again. At one point he must have been scared because he wasn’t use to the car yet and he fell back. I am sure in the right hands it could have caught up and maybe even passed me .But he didn’t and it felt great. Plus the Giants won the Super bowl that night so it was a perfect Sunday. I thought I would share it with my Porsche brothers.
I am sure everyone is now going to send me videos of the R8 beating a 997.

The only thing I have a problem believing is that you thought it "looked nice." Lets see, 7200 in fourth. Hmmm. Was he the only one scared? OK Maybe I have 2 problems. Dude.....never mind. Mother

I don't see the R8 catching up .. I found it to be a tad underpowered. It handled like a dream tho .. felt very planted on the corners.

Hey Larry,
Your car should be a tad faster or equal. See the 5th gear clip. It is great.

The two are about equal in a straight line. Hard to "catch up" once the other driver has the jump. I would believe this.

How the hell fast were you going redlined in fourth? No wonder he was too scared to catch up on a (I assume) secondary road where you take a corner in third.

A Friend of mine had a similar encounter on the freeway. He raced an R8 in his M6 and put about 4 cars and counting on it.

They are underpowered
