early 997's....dependability?
 

I figured Id ask the experts!!

What are your comments on the 05 997 c2 dependability?

Im looking to buy a used one, havent found one yet but am on the hunt. Hoping to get a CPO one so I get an additional 2 years of warranty, but should I not get a CPO, was curious to know what your thoughts were.

Also, is it possible to buy the extended warranty if its not a CPO? Cost?

In aug 2004 I bought a launch car, drove it one year and sold it with 9K miles . The car was trouble free and I missed ut so much that I came back to Porsche --first with another 997S and then a Turbo .

The biggest problem I faced with my first car --the xenon light theives liked it as much as i did.

05 997 C2 (bought new April '05) as my wife's daily driver. She's pretty clueless when it comes to cars, so I have to let her know when it needs service, and I drive it when we take it anywhere. By far the most trouble-free car we've ever had, even compared to Lexus. Around 44+K miles on it now. Only warranty issue was a dash rattle. Zero maintenance issues. Way better build quality than my '01 Boxster. Dealer reports lots of customers with '05 and '06 models that do 15-20+K miles per year with zero problems. Plan to keep it a long time

great, that definitely helps me out. i have an 05 cayenne right now and definitely practically trouble free, and i know the 911 is really a car that can be used as a daily driver but never have owned one before i just wanted to check.

definitely sounds like its a good solid car...if anyone else has insight please throw it my way!

now only to figure out to shop for a 996 turbo or a 997 c2...(for budget reasons i cant go with a 997 turbo!)

I have an 2005 997 S. Not one service problem to date. Love the car....

I have a 05 997s cab...45k miles no problems what so ever. Best car iv had by far.

My launch '05 has been excellent. 32K miles and counting.

2006 997 C2 Cab with 24K trouble free miles. Been through windstorms and minor floods. Still going strong.

But there are still plenty of RMS leaking around...

bought mine in december 04. The best car I've owned. Not a single problem.

Mine is a MY05 launch 997 C2S. 20k per year daily driver, dropping off the kids at school everyday. No problems. I didn't renew the extended warranty. My fuel consumption is now even better than when i first bought it (11.5l/100km) 20.45 mpg with mostly city driving. However I still think the service intervals are too long.

great to hear! how many miles do you have on it right now? probably 60-80k? just trying to figure out engine life, sounds like its purring right along at relatively high mileage so thats very comforting to hear!

My wife and I consistently get over 21 MPG in our '05, which isn't bad, and that's not trying to get good mileage. Lots of city driving at that. Much better on the open highway

I'm not sure about others, but rear tire wear on older 911s was reportedly horrible. 997 tires wear much longer than earlier models, and the first (original) rear set of PS2s (19") lasted 28K miles. Fronts lasted even longer and getting equally good wear on the current set. I keep meaning to get it aligned (still original alignment + wear), but tires are wearing evenly.

As far as maintenance interval, starting with the 2008 model year, Porsche significantly shortened the oil change interval after progressively extending it since the 996 model. Porsche's fascinating maintenance schedule comparison can be found (now) at http://www.porsche.com/filestore.asp...letype=default and assuming one day the link moves or changes, I've attached the file for posterity. It shows the maintenance interval for all Porsche cars from 2001 on. I change the oil about 3x as often as recommended. I'm not even sure Mobil 1 is rated to 20K miles

Get a 996tt, better engine, deals are being had big time.
