11 Days

I reached the 2000 mile mark in 11 days while in Europe. Then,--wide open! Many believe the break-in is for novice Porsche pilots to get used to the car; others believe it's to get suspension parts loosened up; few believe it has anything to do with the engine. My neighbor was once a Porsche mechanic and he told me that you can just drive it like you stole it. Whatever you do will not affect the engine's life or performance. I followed the rules since I hadn't been over 125 mph consistently for about 5 years. It was for me to get up to speed. Once I was back in Germany and the land of wide-open Autobahns I was hitting 180 routinely. My oil consumption was tremendously--bad, for about 25,000 miles. Then, a miracle occurred. At 24,996 miles my service manager topped it off with yet another quart of Mobil 0-W40 (as he has been doing every 1000 miles) but this time it's still hanging in there. I've gone over 2500 miles on that top off and it's only down 1-2 blocks. Sometimes these things take time to break in. (Steels are harder today than 20 years ago).

Each bar/block, equals 1/2 quart.

As far as I am concerned, if "they" didn't want you to break the car in, leave it out of the documentation that comes with the car. And we wouldn't be having this conversation.

I believe you need to reread that section of the manual. Each block does not represent 0.5 quart.

Manufacturer specifies clearly 2000 miles. I did mine on the twisties within RPM limits and the miles went by fairly fast.

You'll get differing opinions on this, even to the extreme of some people who think it is better to do some sort of high revving thing and then viola, your car is broken in.

This is one reason why I lean against buying used. I think most owners violate the manufacturer break in requirements.
