Resetting The Service Counter On A Carrera S

Hey everyone,

My car has recently had the oil changed, brakes checked, etc. And the time just counted down on my odometer for service. The car was purchased September 27, 2006, and has 9555kms on it now. The car has had the oil changed and other assorted maintenance done however. I was just curious if anyone knew how to reset the service timer, or if it was worth taking to Porsche and having them service the car. I know the cost was $1100-$1200, so any input on the situation would be helpful.

Thanks
-David

My indy's machine wasn't working, so I couldn't get mine reset at my last service. I took it to a dealer, who refused to reset the service counter, even if I paid for the service time.

You basically have a couple of options --- (1) find an indy or dealer to reset the counter for free or a small fee (~$50); or (2) buy the durametric machine and software ($250) and reset it yourself. The machine is also useful in analyzing fault codes, etc. If someone else performed the service, you can take it to them and have them reset the light.

The unacceptable solution, imo, would be to pay a dealer $700+ to perform a glorified oil change. Frankly, I find the service reminder a totally unnecessary and annoying "feature" of the car.

Does anyone know a dealer or indy in the LA area willing to reset the service counter?
