DIY: Paint wheels. Just Finished!
DIY: Paint wheels. Just Finished!
Well it took me longer than I thought, and I don't think i would do it again.
I Painted the spokes on my Carrera S (Lobster Fork) wheels black.
I wanted to leave the outside and inside lip stock to give the wheel a deeper look, which i think it did.
I used Duplicolor paints and clearcoat.
It took me about 6-8 hours total, because i had to do 1 wheel at a time .
I like the result.... Do you?

I was going to paint the caps, but I thought it would compliment the lips.
Plus it will make it look even more different than the rest of the painted porsche wheels.
I like the way it looks currently, though some will think it looks unfinished.. to each there own i guess.

I'm not a big fan of the Lobster Fork but what you've done really improves them. They look great. I do think the area around the crest needs something, if not black then dark gray to match the body maybe?

did u tape up the inside when you did this? That must have take the longest time to do (the prep work).
results look great.
i should try this on my bmw wheels.
Duplicolor paints and clearcoat, where can i buy these from?

I bought a set of Sport Design from a friend, he had them painted Black, including logo's. I am thinking of painting the logo in silver by hand to get some detail back in the wheel.
The reason I did not do them all black, is that the wheel and tire just look like one big black peice.
I have seen the lobster forks painted from the factory, but they have the inner lip and wheel cap painted also.
I wanted to leave the inner lip unpainted to give the wheel more depth (which it did) and the crest unpainted to compliment the unpainted lips, break up the black, and to make it look different than the other painted wheels.
I'm supr happy with the results!.
and YES the prep work was 95% of the work and taping will make or break how the wheels turn out.
I did not tape the inside, I just covered with newspaper, it worked great.

Nice work, if your day job doesn't work out you may have found your calling!
I still have my OEM 19" Lobster Fork wheels for sale, they're painted matte black (satin) and come with spacers, center caps (black), lugs, everything and I'll do it for $1,250 shipped for the first person that wants them!
