I've got a 2005 is it a 996 or 997?

Expecting delivery for a 2005 911. Discovered in 2005 both models were manufactured of the 996 and 997. Is there some way to determine which model mine is?

Thanks!

The C4S also had a 996 body in 2005. You can tell which one you've got just by looking at the dashboard, headlights, tail lights, etc.

They built 996 Targa C2s in 2005 as well.

The production tag on the vehicle (have a picture) says 12/04. The car is registered as a 2005.

Besides taking it to the dealer, how can I determine if it's a 996 or 997. Have nothing to compare it with.

Here's a picture of the dash.

*Edit* Added a few other pictures.

dude?

Big_O Sep 19, 2008 09:43 PM

LOL, can you confirm it's a 997 fastlane?

keninirvine Sep 19, 2008 09:44 PM

Are you saying you took delivery of a car without knowing the obvious differences between 996 and 997 models? Your photos show the car is obviously a 997. Enjoy.

Big_O Sep 19, 2008 09:48 PM

*chuckles* I had thought it was a 997, but really didn't mind. Heard some other information that indicated 2005 had both model years. For modding purposes needed to find out. My experience is with BMW, not Porsche! Everybody has to start somewhere :) Thanks.
