New 997 or used 997S that is the question...
I went through the same process awhile back.
If you have time to wait...wait until jan to buy a new "08"..although the minute the dealer is in the rear view mirror, your left holding the bag so to speak..
JMHO- I opted for a 06' C4S CAB that is CHERRY< 4k mikes and saved over 44K. I decided to cancel my 09 order and wait for the 998 in a few years...
Only factor is the warranty, which you can pick up an extended 3year/60k miles for 1800.00 which still puts you ahead of buying a new old 08.

I'm struggling with the logic here. Consider this scenario. Used 08 C2S with $92k MSRP and ~2k miles. Asking $79k and seems pretty firm. Similar optioned new 08 C2S with a $94k MSRP and will sell for $82k. Both optioned right, one with 2k unknown miles. Dealer offering current Manheim price for trade. Can't even get a number on my trade from the guys with the used one. Why not buy new?
It seems the dealer is taking a majority of year 1 depreciation for me. I understand there is a bigger difference if I found a 06 but with obvious downside being a higher mileage car. Why not buy a new 08, pay the extra $10-20k over a 06...isn't the 08 still worth $10k more than the 06 model in 3-4 years? I guess my thought is that a leftover 08 is probably costing me a net of $10k more than a 06 over 4 years....but if I consider warranty and newness....it is probably more like $5k.

Get the new C2S it is the best deal out of those mentioned.
The 08 will be worth more than the 06 no matter what, also the value of the 4 year warrantee should not be overlooked.
No matter what these cars cost $. If you have the cash spend it and enjoy the car!

I think there is some confusion. I will simplify. I have about 70K to spend. I could get either a 2008 C2 (brand new and no miles) or a 2006 C2S (under 10K miles) for the same money.
I think in the end the C2S is the better value minus the uncertain history and only half a warranty left.

You cant go wrong..numbers are good.
Everyone takes hit when buying a PCAR...no way to avoid it.
JMHO, sounds as though the "new"old 08 is right for you because of the peace of mind new brings. But why not wait a little bit and see how the 09's shake out pricing wise? Worst that can happen is you find an 08 for less.

I have to agree. I think the '06C2S is a much better car and better deal than the '08C2. The '06 is still pretty new and will be much more fun to drive. Different story if you were talking about the '09C2 I think... Bottom line, I don't think you can make a bad choice here!

I have a 06C2S and love it. You probably can get a 06 for closer to 60k-65k and a 07 for 70k. Autotrader has many choices of both. Just take your pick. Always better to buy a used car and save that 1st-2nd year depreciation. These cars are so well built and usually babied by the owners you cant go wrong with used.
There is an 08C2S black on black here in Miami for only $72k!

I drove the car and it is nice but has few options and i felt better saving the $10K and getting the 06. Its a great deal but too close in price to a base 09 IMO.

Looks like a pretty nice car. Doesn't have Sport Chrono though. As far as a base 09, I think you'll be hard pressed to find one with options for less than 90K so this is still a good deal for someone.
