Weekend at track was great, but need help replacing aerokit bumper lip

Went to track day on Saturday and Sunday with Las Vegas PCA at Spring Mountain Motorsports. We did a 3.1 mile course that had numerous turns and several long straigtways to open the car up. It was great to meet some of the PCA member with so much knowledge about P-cars and driving skills. I was a little disappointed that only few 997 were out there. Most of the cars P-cars were 996, 996 TT and several GT3 and since it was open to everyone, we had lamborghini, ferrari, BMW, Civics and some Radical cars. Couple of the people told me that 997 owners other P-car owners didn't want to bring out their cars b/c they were afraid to damage their cars. I found the track to be the best place to really learn how to drive my car and improve my driving skills. Also, instructors were on hand so we were able to ask questions. If you can get your car out to a track I highly recommended.

Having said that I did end up damaging the lower lip of the front bumper. A f@#%ing lamborghini driver didn't go to a drivers meeting so he didn't know the rules so he was passing people in the turn, in straightways without being waved by and all sorts of stupid crap. On top of that he was more advance driver than our run group so was passing everyone. So long story short, I basically got pushed off the track by the lamborghini and scartched the lower lip on the gravels. I read on a thread (can't remember which one) that to replace the lower lip is pretty inexpensive. So I'm looking to see if anyone has purchased the lower lip and where and what they paid for.

Thanks

Try suncoast its a sponsor on the left.

These pop right on and off, if you want it white you will have to get it painted.

But if you have to get it painted, why nit just light sand it and paint it yourself or give it to your body shop.

I have done it a few times. Sun Coast is good or any local dealer. Just a few bolts to take it on and off. I didn't even bother painting the last time. Still looks good and saves a few hundred for paint.

What a bone head the Lambo guy is.

If he is a more advanced driver, then he must know that a DE is not a race and only a "point to pass" track event. Did the course marshall black flag him?

Too bad about the damage. It happens at tracks, but the fun is worth it. I was at Spring Mountain a month ago for their two day radical school, what a great time I had. The Radical SR3 I drove was a real race car, and was fantastic to drive. They had us on the 2.2 mile track, for you to do the 3 mile track they must have linked both tracks together. At some point i will probably go back up with my 997 for a trackday with a club. For those that have never been there, Spring Mountain is fantastic, I highly recommend it.

It's very easy to replace. A plastic screw on the left and right near the wheel well to remove and then just pull firmly straight out towards you. I had a painted one previously and since they get scraped up fairly frequently I found that ordering the unpainted one was much less costly and looks just as good (especially on white having the contrast white the black). If you are going to have it painted you could order the primered lip which is a couple bucks cheaper than the black lip.

Yes, the Lambo did get black flagged, but he did an extra lap at 40 mph before he finally pitted. He was a member of the track so he figure he could do whatever he wanted, regardless how dangerous it was.

I agree the enjoyment of track event is worth a little damage here and there. At least it wasn't anything major. They only have one track put the 3.1 miles is the longest configuration. Radical SR3 must have been fun and fast. Most of the Radical that were there were goin really fast and the sound when they pass is great.

I went to the local porsche dealership and they told me that aerokit chin comes primered and the GT3 chin comes in black. I thought the aerokit and GT3 front bumper and chin were the same, but parts dept told me they are differnt. The GT3 one comes in black. Question: Can I buy the GT3 chin ($222) and put it on the aerokit or do I have the buy the aerokit chin ($210)? They have different part numbers.

That's what I thought, but the parts guys wasn't sure and even Dan at Vivid wasn't sure. I might also see how much it would cost to sand and repaint the one I have.

I am sure the Lambo guy, knew what he was doing, but he didn't know what the other drivers were doing. It only takes one little mistake to cause a major incident. I was on the track when the car in the "996GT3 to 997GT3RS" car lost control and got hit by a 997C4 Cab.

Sorry to hear about the d*ck driver, but it sound like it was fun nonetheless!

Replacement lips aren't horribly expensive at all, and are super easy to replace. The Aerokit primered lips are $189.95, and if you wanted to bypass painting and go to the black GT3 lip, it would fit fine and runs $205.55. I know a bunch of guys with Aerokits that have a few of these sitting around just for track days!

Aerokit 997 Spoiler Replacement in Primer - $189.95

GT3 Front Spoiler Lip - $205.55

I'd keep the scratched lip for track days and get another one for street and show.

I replaced my aerokit painted lip with a GT3 black one. It is holding up better than painted one did. Scratches blend in better, you don't get stress cracking of the paint when you accidentally drag it.
